Colorful Latin Wedding Inspiration
September 13, 2018

Today we have colorful Latin wedding inspiration for you all! We love the vibrant color story and unique cultural elements woven into this design. This styled shoot was focused on celebrating the Latin American wedding and features one of our fave photographers, Photography by Marirosa! The team behind this styled shoot wanted to bring together their culture, sounds, traditions, colors and more. All of the amazing vendors who participated showcased not only their talents but their focus on inclusion of the Latin traditions in weddings.

For the tablescapes they brought in Mexican talavera plates and platters. They combined these with a variety of Latin American food. From ceviche to tamales, margaritas to guacamole, our mouths are watering. Just look at that amazing spread! Talk about yum. The flowers throughout the day are gorgeous and bright as well! The focus on the strong colors and greens is so unique. We love that they brought in the dark fuschia, orange, and other colors representing the culture.

And why have one cake when you can have two? The wedding cake focused on brighter colors of the overall design, with a splash of Mexican flair. The groom’s cake, on the other hand, features an old school car. How cool is that?! Thank you to Photography by Marirosa for sharing this latin inspired wedding shoot with us today!

Classically Elegant Jewish DC Wedding
August 29, 2018

Hooray! You’ve reached the middle of the week! Did you have a chance to sign up for the bridal bootcamp we shared yesterday? What better way to look and feel your best than to get your booty kicked with other brides (and grooms!) to be?

T+O had an elegant wedding full of Jewish traditions and beautiful details at DC’s Cosmos Club. Our bride perfectly complemented the spring season with a pink floral crown and floral appliqué gown while her groom was dapper in a traditional tuxedo. As a pair, they embodied the gilded elegance of the Cosmos Club. Their design and décor echoed this sentiment as well. From the gold party poppers to the three tiered cake, classic elegance was in full swing. Thank you to Love Life Images for sharing this classically elegant Jewish DC wedding with us today

Coastal Cranberry and Blue Maryland Wedding
July 11, 2018

We hope you all had a fantastic 4th of July week of fun! In honor of last weeks big American holiday we are bringing you a coastal Maryland wedding that includes a red white and blue color story. Alex and McKenna are high school sweethearts! They started dating they sophomore year of high school. Since McKenna have a twin brother, they had the same friend group. The pair started getting to know each other more at a friends NYE Party. Alex asked her to be his girlfriend a couple weeks later. 10 years later, they we married in a gorgeous Maryland wedding celebration!

Both Alex and  McKenna are from a waterfront community in southern Maryland, and spent most summer days and nights on the water with friends and family. Because of this, they knew they wanted a waterfront wedding in southern Maryland that spoke to the hometown charm they both grew up with. Woodlawn Farm was the first venue they looked at, and they booked it immediately. It was exactly what they were looking for. The bride’s vision was coastal and timeless. She wanted a fall color palette that included burgundy, a dusty blue and green, and a neutral sand color for balance. It turned out so beautifully! Thank you to Amanda Adams Photography for sharing this wedding with us today.

What is your proposal story? It was filled with all of our favorite pastime moments. We did long distance all 4 years of college (Me in NC, him in MD), and Alex would come to North Carolina around the beginning of February to celebrate three holidays around that same time of year: Our anniversary, my birthday, and valentine’s day. We would always rent a cabin and head to the mountains for the weekend.

For his proposal, he planned a weekend getaway for our 9th anniversary to the mountains in Shenandoah Valley like old times. We cooked our favorite meals including a spaghetti dish he made for me the first time I spent the weekend on his boat our junior year of college (he lived on a sailboat for that summer). Saturday night we went to dinner, and when we returned to the cabin, there were candles, chocolate covered strawberries, and champagne set up on the table and he asked me to marry him in the sweetest words!

My necklace is a family heirloom passed down to every generation for their wedding day. However, the ownership goes to the granddaughter. So after the wedding, I had to give it back to my grandma. When she passes, it skips my mom and goes to me for ownership.

What were your favorite parts of the day? Can I say the whole day was my favorite? I absolutely loved getting ready with all of my favorite ladies all day in the main house on the venue property. From mimosas/coffee and pastries in the morning, to dancing around the main house to our favorite songs, it was unforgettable. Obviously seeing my groom for the first time walking down the aisle, and celebrating with all of our friends and family at the reception was amazing. Our families got into some pretty serious dance battles at the reception!

Glam Women in the Arts Wedding
July 3, 2018

After 2 years of causally running into one another at various get togethers hosted by mutual friends, Melanie and Nick finally started dating after one epic rainy night that involved lost windshield wipers and numerous car troubles. Six and a half years later, Nick finally proposed to Mel in Ireland. It was obviously fate as there was a Capitals jersey on the wall of the pub where Nick proposed. This would later come into play for their DC wedding reception as well. Thank you to  Michelle Lindsay Photography for sharing this National Museum of Women in the Arts wedding with us today.

For Melanie and Nick, the wedding day was a true celebration of blending of families.  It was a multi-cultural affair; it incorporated Melanie’s Filipino traditions with a nod to the Irish in Nick’s background. This couple planned every detail of the day, including many personalized and custom elements. From the gold and white paper goods, to the gold sequin bridesmaids’ dresses, to Melanie’s custom designed veil. Each side of the family provided something special and unique for the couple and guests to enjoy. The homemade desserts were even provided by the bride’s uncle and the groom’s mother.

In addition to the beautiful details, Melanie had a trick up her sleeve. She planned a pretty epic surprise for her new hubby. As both her and Nick are huge Washington Capitals fans, Melanie wanted to surprise Nick with a special guest at their reception – Slapshot of the Washington Capitals!  We think he is best party crasher you could ever hope for!

Geometric Peidmont Club Wedding
March 19, 2018

Happy Monday! Did you have a great weekend full of wedding planning? We hope you have been following along on the United with Love Instagram stories. We’re scouting out’ fun adventures for Charleston and Savannah bridal party getaway weekends. We had so much finding the best spots to eat, drink, and celebrate with your crew and we can’t wait to share in an upcoming post about Southern Bachelorette Party planning!

Today we have a Geometric Virginia Piedmont Club wedding perfectly planned down to the unique last detail by the couple. Susan and Zach wanted to plan each element together and we think that’s fantastic! From the foundation of incorporating Susan’s Korean-American traditions into the decor and ceremony to the very smallest details like hexagon-shaped menu cards and lettered marble tiles for escort cards. They did them all by hand!

The couple knew that it was important to have an all star team to execute their dream wedding as they wanted to be able to enjoy their wedding day and hand it over to the professionals! We especially love the hexagon wall Brightly Ever After built for their outdoor Virginia wedding ceremony that complemented the beautiful greenery of the 18th hole. Thank you to Susan and Zach for sharing a look at their Virginia Piedmont Club wedding.

Quaint Maryland Barn Wedding
March 14, 2018

We have an adorably quaint Maryland barn wedding at Jubilee Farm & Vineyards to share with our readers today! Rachel and Mike met during a summer job at a local Southern Maryland restaurant, and while they didn’t connect romantically that first summer the sparks flew the following year and the relationship took off from there! When planning their wedding, the couple had a short list of must have’s for their Maryland wedding venue. Waterside and rustic barn locale were the two necessities at the top of the list. Fortunately, Jubilee Farm met all their criteria; they were instantly smitten! Mixing watercolor floral bridesmaid dresses with soften greenery laden flowers, they began designing a rustic meets chic plan. We think they did an incredible job because we are in love with the Maryland barn wedding result! The entire day had thoughtful details and personal touches that we enjoy seeing. These pieces always make for the most memorable weddings. Thank you to Andrea Rodway Photography for sharing their quaint barn wedding with us via Matchology!

Tell us about your proposal: “Rachel likes to participate in endurance events. Mike, not so much! Rachel sometimes likes to sign Mike up for races and then tell him about it after. For a few years, they always did the Shanrock half marathon in Virginia Beach. In March 2016, the couple headed to Virginia Beach for another race. They were calling for horrible weather. Cold, windy and pouring down rain! Rachel was ready to bail and not even do the race, but luckily Mike changed her mind. And good thing he did… after they crossed the finish line, Mike got down on one knee and proposed to Rachel in front of everyone! What made that moment even more special is that he surprised her by inviting both of their families to be there to celebrate. “

Any special heirlooms or traditions? “The brides father was cremated when he passed away in 2005. The brides mother surprised her by getting some of the ashes turned into a blue glass heart that the bride wore inside of her dress as her something blue and to have her father with her as she walked down the aisle. The bride also wrapped the base of her bouquet with a handkerchief of her grandfather that also passed away. “

Tell us about your florals: “We got our flowers from Weaver’s Fresh Cut Flowers. The flower shop is run by an Amish family. It’s very old school- no phone, no email and you have to pay with cash. The flowers were so beautiful and very reasonably priced. We went in with pictures of bouquets, wine barrel flowers and everything else and they were very accommodating. All of the lowers we chose were white and with added greenery. Very simple but beautiful and accented the bridesmaid dresses perfectly. “

Tell us about your design vision: “Our vision was that we wanted something rustic and chic. We wanted some of our decor to be personal, so we used Rachel’s grandmother’s personal teapot collection as centerpieces. The color scheme was based off of the floral bridesmaid dresses. Since the dresses had so many soft colors, we wanted everything else to be simple and enhance the colors of the dress. We also wanted to include our family members in a special way, so we asked the special women in our lives to make desserts for our dessert bar.”

What items did you splurge or skip? “The most important thing to us was being able to invite and include everyone that we wanted. This meant that we had to make some choices on things to skip, like renting a chandelier or going with a specific caterer. We did splurge on making sure we had a nice open bar and fun DJ for our guests. We also wanted our ceremony to be personal, which is why we had our close friend officiateour ceremony and we had personalized vows. Overall, the things we chose to “skip” weren’t even missed and everything turned out to be better than planned. We did prepare and buy clear umbrellas for the entire wedding party, but thankfully the rain stopped just in time!”

Intimate DC War Memorial Wedding
February 12, 2018

Dan & Eric’s intimate DC War Memorial wedding was held on a rainy day in April. Despite this, the couple didn’t let the weather get the best of their joyous occasion! Given the smaller nature of the wedding, they ensured that every last detail of their day was customized to include their friends and family. From having their children assist them in getting ready to their momentous yet intimate ceremony site, and private reception at Capitale DC, this wedding was designed with beautiful detail and love. We love the flashes of gold in their art deco wedding invitations and the towering teal deco inspired wedding cake by Dog Tag Bakery! A big thank you to Andrea Rodway Photography for sharing their wedding with us via Matchology! Stay tuned this week for more DC wedding inspiration to come!

Tell us more about your wedding: “At the time of our wedding we had all ready been together for 8 years and we decided that our primary focus was creating a fun filled celebratory experience for our friends and family. Since we met in DC and have been here for over 15 years it just made sense to have our wedding here. We created a Facebook Event entitled “My Big Fat DC Wedding Scavenger Hunt” with a list of some of our favorite experiences in DC and asked our guests to accomplish different tasks and post photos to the event page so that we could create a photo album of our friends and family running around the city and having fun. We included the scavenger hunt list in the invitations. The night of our rehearsal we hosted a 5K run that took the participants past all of the monuments on The National Mall followed by Happy Hour at Penn Quarter Sports Tavern.

We decided to have our ceremony at The DC War Memorial which is somewhat off the beaten path and often forgotten by tourists. Its a quiet, tucked away monument that’s an area that’s surrounded by beautiful scenery. We hired a wonderful violinist that played fun and upbeat music as guests arrived. After the ceremony we held a Happy Hour style reception at Capitale. We bussed all of our guests there while in true DC fashion we took a Pedi-Cab through the city. “

Tell us about traditions or mementos in your wedding: “As part of the ceremony we found an adaptation of a Yoruba tradition where the couple each consumes 4 different flavor foods. Each represents a different period in a couples relationship. Rather than just us tasting each food we placed a box on each chair so that our guests could also participate in the experience. The first flavor was something sour (Sour Gummi’s) which describes times when things are less than perfect and a couple might experience life’s disappointments. Then we moved to something bitter (Dark Chocolate) which represents moments of rejection or denial. The third flavor was something hot (Tabasco flavored Chocolates) which represented spice and passion. The last flavor was something sweet (Rice Krispy Treats) which represented the abundance of life, love and enjoyment that we hope to celebrate as a married couple. We also included a bottle of Voss water with custom labels containing our engagement photos, names, and the wedding date.”

Tell us about your cake: “In sticking with a DC theme wedding we chose Dog Tag Bakery. Not only is Dog Tag one of our favorite places in Georgetown but they have a very special mission. Dog Tag Inc. provides a “trans-formative opportunity for veterans with disabilities by offering an education at Georgetown University and real life work experience. Giving back is very important to us both so when Dog Tag agreed to create our wedding cake it was a no-brainer.

As we explored different ideas, the cakes that continued to catch our eye were done in an art deco style. In the end we decided on a layered cake with alternating Red Velvet and Hummingbird, a southern style spice cake with cream cheese frosting. In the end Dog Tag did an amazing job and created something that was above and beyond what we could have imagined not to mention super delicious.”

Cozy Winter Elopement Wedding
February 2, 2018

How much did you love yesterdays Galentines Party inspiration from Lisa Blume Photography? I cant believe it’s already February and we are that much closer to warmer weather! Bring on the warm DC Spring weddings please! Today we have an intimate look at Sara and Jacob’s cozy winter DC elopement wedding with Elizabeth M Photography. From the brides simple sweater and tulle skirt, to their sheer joy in portraits, it goes to show that you don’t need the fanfare to have an exceptional wedding! Love truly is all you need. The couple decided to have an intimate elopement wedding to focus on sharing the experience and ceremony privately together. They both loved the idea of having this secret. It was important for them to embrace it together before telling family and friends. Having an intimate wedding kept the emphasis on why they wanted to get married and the relationship they share.

Following their DC courthouse ceremony, Sara and Jacob joined their photographer for photos on the waterfront and spent the day enjoying each others company. We love how they still incorporated traditions such as a grooms boutonniere and the brides fluffy pink bouquet from Love and Luster Floral Design! Congrats to the newlyweds! Make sure to check back next week as we have another lovely week of DC wedding inspiration!

Springtime Monumental DC Wedding
January 10, 2018

Allyson & Johnny met in high school through close friends. After many years of being friends and seeing each other on school breaks, Jonathan finally asked Allyson out in 2012. After their first date they never looked back. They happy couple said I do in the gorgeous historic church St. John The Evangelist; following the ceremony the wedding party made their way to the Lincoln Memorial for DC wedding portraits. They knew they wanted a classic DC wedding that was traditional with a few modern touches. Since both Jonathan and Allyson grew up right outside DC their whole lives, the decision to have a DC inspired wedding was an easy decision!

At the top of their wedding wish list was finding a classic venue that was also fun and elegant at the same time. DC can often be stuffy and that was the last thing they wanted on their wedding day. The Ronald Reagan Building checked all the boxes. Their reception followed the mid day ceremony, an included DC inspired details and décor. The backside of their escort cards were made to look like old school DC metro tickets and each table had a cake with a fondant silhouette of the memorials and monuments. We love the unique look of the DC silhouette wedding cake centerpieces that really made the reception utterly unique! A thank you to Nicole Barr Photography for sharing this DC Ronald Reagan Building wedding with us today!

From the Bride- What family traditions/heirlooms did you incorporate: ” We have a few family heirlooms that I used that day. My sister Mandy, had her veil made for her wedding, since then my other sister and myself have used it on our wedding day. Its beautiful and very simple! My sisters and I have also all worn my grandmothers rings on our wedding day.

Jonathan gave his oldest brother/best man a watch as a gift to wear during the wedding, This tradition began in 2005 when his oldest brother got married and gave his middle brother a watch, his middle brother got married in 2011 and gave Jonathan a watch, Jonathan completed the circle so all three of them had their watches on during our wedding.”

What did you splurge or skip while planning? “The four things we really wanted and splurged for were: a great band, good food, and an amazing photographer and videographer. We wanted a large band that could play a variety of music to keep the dance floor active all night. Doctors Orders did an excellent job. We wanted the videographer and photographer more than anything because we wanted the day to be captured perfectly. Our video is fantastic and Nicole did an amazing job on all our photos. Both Clickspark and Nicole went above and beyond to make Jonathan and I feel special. I wouldn’t change that for the world! We skipped gift favors because we noticed, after attending many many weddings, most people leave them behind. We chose to put that money towards late night snacks during the reception! I would say people liked those more“

Tell us your favorite parts of the day: “Allyson-My favorite part of the day was getting ready to walk down the aisle. It was the last moment with my father before I saw Jonathan for the first time. There was so many emotions and excitement at that one moment. I had to take many deep breaths to stop from crying.

Jonathan-The moment the church doors opened and I saw Allyson for the first time. My heart jumped through my chest and I could barely stand when I saw how beautiful she was. Also, sitting by her side as our loved ones toasted us with their speeches-especially my brothers slow-jam duet which was heartfelt but full of comedy.”

Best Advice for Couples: ” My biggest advice is find your vision before you start looking and planning. It is best to know what is important to you and what you can do without. Also if you have visions of a big classic wedding or a small rustic day, do not compromise that dream. This is the biggest day of your life and I wouldn’t trade our day for the world. Have fun with the planning. It seems like a lot but enjoy the time spent on all the details that make the day special. Make sure to take moments during the day and especially the reception to step back, take it all in, and watch everyone enjoying themselves.”
