Classic Georgetown Wedding in Washington, DC: Ashley + Wike
June 6, 2011

Today’s wedding from Rebekah J. Murray Photography is all about classic elegance sprinkled with playful hot pink details!  Ashley and Wike were married last summer in Georgetown, and the beautiful neighborhood setting provided the perfect backdrop for a traditional ceremony followed by a nautical-inspired reception a nod to the groom’s favorite pastime at Sequoia on the Georgetown waterfront.

From Ashley: We wanted the feel to be classic, elegant, modern, but not plain.  Wike loves sailing and I love the beach, so I wanted to incorporate some of those nautical details.  I also love hot pink, but I didn’t want to overdo it, so I chose a couple places throughout the wedding to make it noticeable but still keeping it looking elegant.

We incorporated several heirlooms into our wedding.  I wore a crystal pin in my hair that my grandmother had given me a long time ago.  My mom let us borrow her silver champagne flutes from her wedding to my dad in 1975 and my beautiful engagement ring is vintage and was passed down from Wike’s great grandmother.

The venue was very important, I love the beach and Wike loves sailing, so I wanted to pick somewhere with lots of light and water views that would incorporate those aspects.  Also I wanted the reception venue to be simple but still spectacular and I think Sequoia really made that possible.

I love the way Ashley incorporated strips of hot pink for a playful and personal touch on their classic wedding cake from Fluffy Thoughts Cakes.

Ashley and Wike gave personalized sunglasses as party favors and, as the highlight of the night, all the guests wore the sunglasses as they sang Piano Man to the couple during the reception!

Fall Georgetown City Tavern Club Wedding
October 17, 2018

Today’s couple, Katie and Thomas,  met at a Jazz in the Garden event thrown by their graduate program. “So DC, I know,” says Katie! The two didn’t realize that they were in the same program but they ended up having a class together that semester. Katie would always make sure to sit where she could see Thomas; “I wanted to look at something cute during class!” How adorable are they?! Their fall DC wedding was held at Christ Church Georgetown and City Tavern Club.

We love the pops of red in the florals and Katie’s shoes that really stand out among the clean, crisp white of their decor. The clusters of fruit featured in all of their centerpieces was also a fun touch! We’re suckers for unique centerpiece designs and this one really evokes fall for us. The alternating jade green and gold rimmed dinner plates are also a great detail; we just can’t get enough of those pops of color. Thank you to Liz Stewart Photography for sharing this City Tavern Club wedding with us today!

Tell us your proposal story. Thomas asked at the National Gallery November 3, 2016 (one day and year before our wedding!). He had asked my parents for their blessing nearly a month before, unbeknownst to me until my Dad spilled the beans. But I put it far from my mind, convinced that it wasn’t coming any time soon. However, as we traveled to the National Gallery of Art it occurred to me that maybe, just maybe, he was going to propose. But as we kept circling room after room with no proposal in sight (or ring box, for that matter) I thought that I had completely misread the situation and was dead wrong. As I was busy telling myself to not show that I was really disappointed, he took me by surprise; he dropped to one knee in an empty gallery and popped the question. A bonus? It was in front our a favorite painter of ours: Winslow Homer. The piece? “Breezing Up (a Fair Wind).”

August 14, 2015

Good morning Washington DC area wedding lovers! Today, we are headed to the quiet and serene spots of Georgetown (Yes, there are spots like this in Washington, DC!) and I hope you ready for one of the prettiest sunset wedding engagement sessions. I can’t get enough of the beautiful fading sunlight over DC, the warm pink, purple and orange colors and the incredible use of shadows in Allison and Josh’s wedding engagement photos with Michelle Lindsay Photography. They clearly had a blast finding unique spots all along the Georgetown waterfront just as the sun was setting in the beautiful city of ours. They look so calm, relaxed and in love”just as it should be!

Modern Indian Fusion Wedding Reception in Georgetown: Bonnie + Tom
June 2, 2015

We’re back with more from Bonnie and Tom’s modern, Indian fusion and oh-so fabulous wedding in Washington DC! In case you missed their intimate wedding ceremony blending both of their cultural backgrounds, be sure to check it out here. After the pair said “I do,” they stayed in the same location to celebrate their wedding reception at L2 Lounge in Georgetown. With bright pops of neon color reflecting their modern style and a dance party just as they had imagined it, the night was full of love and laughter with lots of celebration in between. We love how they even gave out bangles and bindis for their wedding guests to help them celebrate. Thanks to DuHon Photography for capturing Bonnie and Tom’s modern and personal wedding planned to perfection by Roberts & Co. Events!

From Bonnie: Making sure everyone was having a good time was our biggest priority. A large majority of guests were friends from all over the country, and by keeping the focus on the reception, we were able to celebrate in a big way.

indian-jewelry-georgetown-dc-wedding-Duhon-Photography indian-wedding-jewelry-georgetown-dc-wedding-Duhon-Photography

We had a FujiInstax camera out for our wedding guestbook and it was so fun to look at the photos the next day! Everyone looked like they were having such a good time, and it held me over until the real wedding photos came in!

I was really into neon colors at the time, and our wedding planner, Tabitha, helped to infuse our wedding with pops of color. Our colors were neon yellow, pink and black – yes, REALLY neon!

Bonnie gave us some great advice for Washington DC area engaged couples:

Save some of your wedding budget for the last month of planning, as unexpected things come up and you really don’t want to skimp on them.

I suggest looking at non-traditional wedding venues to find exactly what you want. This way you can spend more money on the items that you are really attracted to. Working with a wedding planner and other industry professionals was huge in helping create a wedding day that was in our budget and matched our vision!

Modern Indian Fusion Wedding Ceremony in Georgetown: Bonnie + Tom
June 2, 2015

Bonnie and Tom wanted a unique wedding location to reflect their modern style and different cultural backgrounds. So, after much searching, this beautiful couple decided to wed at L2 Lounge in Georgetown, Washington, DC. With pops of gold and red throughout their ceremony, this Washington DC wedding is one we just can’t get enough of! They fused their love of design with their love for one another and their wedding celebration was the perfect reflection of just that! (You might even recognize the bride as Washington DC area wedding photographer, Bonnie Sen.) With wedding planning by Roberts & Co. Events, thanks to DuHon Photography for capturing this swanky, modern wedding in the city!

gold-wedding-shoes-georgetown-dc-wedding-Duhon-Photography

From Bonnie: Tom is very European (Dutch and Slovenian) and I am very Indian, so we knew we wanted our wedding to reflect our heritage, but since we were both architects we also wanted a very modern wedding. Finding the wedding venue was the biggest hurdle since we knew we wanted a very modern space, and a non-traditional one. Once we found the nightclub option everything fell into place. We made up the rules as we went, keeping the wedding ceremony light and engaging.

There were welcome bags delivered to the hotels of late night munchies for after the party. Our wedding favors was a CD of our Bollywood inspired soundtrack. Our wedding guests were given bangles and bindi’s to wear for the party and during the blessing part of the ceremony, our guests were encouraged to throw flowers and confetti.

Outdoor Fall Wedding Engagement Session in Georgetown: Anika + Luke
April 17, 2015

Good morning DC area weddings lovers, and happy spring! I am just loving this adorable autumn wedding engagement session by Renard Photography that almost makes me wish for pumpkins and falling leaves again (almost!). Right now I’ll stick with the spring sunshine, but I’ll be dreaming of Anika and Luke’s cozy session all day long. Anika and Luke met the summer after they graduated from high school while working at Starbucks. After dating for five years, Luke proposed one early morning while they were walking their Boxer puppy Messi. Luke mentioned he bought Messi a new dog tag and told Anika to read it. It said: “Mommy, will you marry Daddy?” So adorable!

Wedding Marriage Proposal in Georgetown: Carmela + Jimmy
January 23, 2015

Warning: Grab a box of tissues because this Washington DC marriage proposal caught on camera is the sweetest thing you’ll see all day! Jimmy surprised Carmela with a puzzle piece scavenger hunt in Georgetown that started at Dean & DeLuca and ended at the Old Stone House. Elizabeth Fogarty Photography was on hand to capture Jimmy get down on one knee and all the sweet moments following!

old-stone-house-garden-georgetown-proposal-dc-wedding-photographer-1 old-stone-house-garden-georgetown-proposal-dc-wedding-photographer-2

From Carmela: That Sunday was a busy one. We started our day off normally by going to mass at Georgetown and then walked over to meet some friends for brunch, but little did I know that after our brunch plan Jimmy was running around DC to set up the proposal. When I returned home, I texted Jimmy that I was back and asked where he was. He responded with “Check out the mirror when you get a chance.” Confused, I walked over to our full-size mirror and on top was a puzzle piece with a little envelope that said, “Let’s change it up today.” I opened up the envelope and inside was a note explaining that there were 3 more puzzle pieces I needed to find in DC and those will lead me to him. Clue 1: Our first date (And in case I didn’t remember, he included a Dean & Deluca business card behind the clue)

Georgetown Marriage Proposal Liz Forgarty Photography (7)

I arrived at Dean & Deluca and text him asking if he was there. All he replied was “nope.” So I was left to try to wander the store for clues or something that stood out. I was almost at the back of the store when I got to the sushi counter and found behind the glass a package of two puzzle pieces and a clue wrapped in a red bow. I immediately grabbed it and read the clue. The clue said “Do you remember our first date? “I loved that date. We shared so many memories since then and I want to tell you them. “Next location: 1) Google the coordinates; 2) Meet me there at 7pm”

The coordinates led me to the Old Stone House in Georgetown. This was the location where I first admitted that I liked him and he admitted that he felt the same way. When I texted him that I was one block away from the Old Stone House, I already saw a crowd outside. I thought it was odd, but as I got closer, I noticed that it was only him and a photographer inside the back garden. At this point, I definitely realized that this was not a scavenger hunt towards a fancy dinner: something a little bigger was happening.

He held up the last puzzle piece and began telling me that it was 7 years since we first met at Georgetown and many other happy memories.  He led me down a rose petal covered path up to the bench where we spent an evening chatting and he continued his speech. Then got down on one knee and pulled out a box from his pocket. He asked me to marry him… and I said “YES!”
