All White Glam Winery Wedding
April 15, 2019

We are so excited for todays Virginia winery wedding at Stone Tower Winery in Loudoun! Hands down this glam wedding ceremony is one of the most beautiful all white weddings we have ever had the privilege of sharing. Brittany and Chris were married last June, and while the rain tried to dampen their celebration; they refused to let it affect their big day. We are in love with the Brittany’s style from her chic top bun to sleek modern bridal bouquet. The all white posh décor was abundant from the orchid centerpieces through to the sparkling gold candles. One color weddings do not have to be boring, but by adding texture they can really shine. Thank you to SRS Events and Photography Du Jour for sharing Brittany and Chris’s glamourous wedding day.

Timeless Pastel Salamander Resort Wedding
March 20, 2019

Brittany and Dan’s classic pastel Salamander Resort wedding has us dreaming of spring and sunshine. With perfectly curated details such as acrylic stir stick place cards and matching table numbers and soft fluffy florals in whites and blush this design scheme is beautiful! The pair were married outside on the grounds before taking the party inside to celebrate in style with their closest friends and family. With bridesmaids clad in varying pastel shades and groomsmen in classic black tuxes, the bride and groom really stood out in their chosen attire. The groom wore a white jacket and black pants to go with his bride who sported a gorgeous strapless, fitted lace gown. The pair looked elegant and timeless. Southern Inspired Baltimore Maryland Soiree
May 14, 2018

Chris and Kati’s southern inspired wedding was over Labor Day weekend, so they incorporated seasonal elements to ensure that their guests enjoyed the last weekend of summer. The navy and black color palette was softened by the addition of blue floral gowns worn by the maid and matron of honor. The outdoor cocktail reception space showcased boxwood hedge bars and watercolor floral linens. They incorporated touches of lemon into their big day in multiple unique ways. They offered fresh lemonade and lemonade signature cocktails on the bar; a nod to the quintessential summer drink! Kati painted lemon table numbers and stippled lemons on a hand lettered seating chart mirror. Kati even wore lemon shoes and Chris wore socks to match! Don’t miss out in hearing more about that, below.
An element that we loved about the southern-inspired event was that the couple incorporated all of their favorite foods from below the Mason-Dixon! They featured Maryland favorites like crab cake hors d’oeuvres and lemon sticks (a Baltimore tradition). On the bar they continued the nod to their home state by featuring Sagamore, which is a local Baltimore-based rye whiskey. The couple hand bottled these at Sagamore’s distillery prior to their wedding. For dinner, guests enjoyed shrimp and grits and bourbon-braised short ribs. For dessert, in addition to the cake, guests enjoyed pecan pies and house made strawberry shortcake. The sweetest end to the sweetest day! Thank you to Hudson Nichols Photography for sharing this southern inspired outdoor Maryland wedding ceremony with us today!
Describe your wedding vision: Chris is a graphic designer and I’m an Event Planner, so one thing that we have in common is that we both love meaningful details and we set out to include as many personal touches as we could. We decided on a southern-inspired, late summer garden wedding in Baltimore. From the honey favors that we sourced from an apiary near my grandmother’s farm, to the invitation suite that Chris designed and the incorporation of family photos displayed alongside my ginger jar collection, we wanted to create a wedding that would feel like it could only be ours.
Special Moments, Traditions or Unique Touches: Chris and I had a hand in most every detail at our wedding. He designed a navy floral invitation suite, complete with save the date; envelope liners; favor tags and even a template for our guest welcome letter and wedding program. I love to paint and do calligraphy, so I painted our table numbers and created a seating chart mirror with lemons stippled onto the border.  I had gotten Kate Spade Lemon themed wedges as a gift to wear for the wedding and set out to find Chris lemon socks. After months of searching I gave up on the idea of our matching lemon attire. My mother knew that was unsuccessful in my hunt for lemon socks, so she found lemon appliqués and sewed them onto a pair of socks and gave them to Chris at our Rehearsal Dinner!
Our families are very close. In order to honor them at our wedding we added wedding photos of our parents and grandparents to our guestbook table. I also really wanted to incorporate my family into what I wore down the aisle; I wore my mother’s veil as my “something borrowed,” my maternal grandmother’s watch slide charm bracelet as my “something old” and my paternal grandmother’s Wedgewood brooch served as my “something blue”. It meant so much to me to be able to create new memories with items from the women in my family.

Luxe Black Panther Inspired Wedding
May 10, 2018

Signaling a revolutionary moment in pop culture, Disney-Marvel’s “Black Panther” is one of the hottest films right now. How can you not love the blockbuster film about T’Challa’s challenge to take his rightful place as the King of Wakanda and the Black Panther? The fight scenes are epic—it’s what makes a superhero movie; but, it’s the sub-story line that intrigued planner and designer, Tami Brown of Blush Weddings & Events by Tami B. “In the film, there’s clear chemistry between T’Challa and Nakia, Lupita Nyong’o’s character which sparked this dramatic wedding inspiration shoot! However, true Marvel Comic fans know that Black Panther marries Storm from X-Men,” said Brown. Can you imagine that walk down the aisle? This styled shoot takes us to Wakanda and right into such a wedding. We hope you enjoy this Black Panther wedding styled shoot today!

Mirrored columns topped with lush arrangements of white orchids, hydrangea, and roses flanked the aisle leading to the ceremony. The reception featured black linen atop a mix of a king’s table and rounds. Gold chairs and chargers added rich depth to the tablescape. The centerpiece commanded attention with high and low blooms of white florals intertwined with glass votives and candelabras. A Wakandian wedding would not be incomplete with the country’s natural resource, vibranium. Kisses of blue crystals in the floral arrangement and blue napkins made from Nigerian lace added to the drama. The team really brought Wakanda to this Maryland wedding venue!

Let’s talk about the killer black tie wedding attire! The queen-to-be wore a custom black trumpet silhouette adorned with a beaded corset bodice and a chiffon cape. The bouquet of white orchids added balance against her gown. A clever bride always leaves hints to her personally in the details of her wedding; go back through the images to find all the subtle nods to Storm’s squad, X-Men. In addition, the groom was outfitted in a black-on-black tuxedo befitting of the Black Panther. Patent leather shoes, of course, completed this regal look.

The following Washington DC wedding professionals contributed to this Black Panther wedding inspiration:

Romantic Blush Wedding at Hotel Monaco DC: Robin + Sandeep
January 11, 2016

Looking at this beautiful couple, you can literally feel the love radiating off the screen during their Hotel Monaco DC wedding. The couple infused both of their cultures into the wedding with a sandalwood garland exchange as a nod to his Indian heritage, and a unity candle lighting and personal vows for their civil ceremony. The couple opted to focus in on the things that were very important to them, such as an amazing band, Doctor’s Orders, and having plenty of personal touches involved in their wedding, such as the pretty awesome grooms cake as a nod the the brides southern roots! My favorite detail has to be Robin’s girly wedding dress and stunning bouquet by Wild Green Yonder. The oversized dinner plate dahlias and trailing greens conveyed such a romantic tone that was perfectly balanced by the light pink bridesmaid dresses! A big thank you to Maryland based photography team at Birds of a Feather Photos for sharing this heart warming Hotel Monaco celebration with us!

From the bride: It was most important to us that our wedding was a joyful day and that everyone had a wonderful, fun time for all of our guests, and we wanted to remember it forever. For us, that meant we needed an awesome band, delicious food and drinks, and the perfect photographers. We wanted our wedding day to be a reflection of us that was classic, elegant, and timeless with special touches that would separates ours from a traditional wedding. Our goal was to design a wedding that would feel both grand and intimate, a happy celebration that respected the solemnity of the union we were entering into.

During the week before the wedding, the bride hosted a traditional Mehndi, or henna, party for her mother, sisters, future mother-in-law, bridesmaids, and female friends. All of the women wore saris that were gifted to the guests and had henna designs drawn on their hands. The bride had henna drawn on her hands and feet, with the groom’s name hidden in the design for him to find.

As for our photographers, we cannot give them enough of the positive praise they deserve. Betty and Maggie, of Birds of a Feather Photography, were excellent from beginning to end, and beyond. They have found the perfect balance of professionalism and personality. Throughout the entire wedding day, I felt they were instrumental in making sure everything ran smoothly and perfectly while simultaneously letting us enjoy every second of the day. They were unobstrusive but captured every special moment that we could hope to remember in photographs.

Advice from the bride: Don’t be pushed into spending more than your comfort level. We focused on working with vendors who would customize their services to meet our needs and our budget. Our florist, Lori at Wild Green Yonder, was a delight to work with. She customized our floral design to our budget and we got everything we wanted and more.

Bringing our vision to life resulted in a civil ceremony, encircled by our guests, that included both traditional American and Indian wedding rituals, tuxedos and saris, a dear friend as the officiant, and exchanging vows that we wrote for each other. My favorite memory from the day was that I remember standing, before all of our family and friends, across from my groom and listening to the vows he had written to me, and, when he was finished, asking if I could kiss him. I was told I would have to wait.

The band was one of the first vendors we booked for our wedding and we could not have been more thrilled with their performance at our reception! Everyone was on the dance floor all night and our guests still rave about our great band. After the ceremony and cocktail hour, we kicked off our reception with a choreographed dance to “For Once in My Life.” For the father-daughter dance, the bride and her father surprised the guests with a choreographed dance to “Rocky Top,” as an homage to the bride’s alma mater.

Advice from the Bride for other Washington DC area couples:

Remember that, as the bride and groom, you’re on the same team! Listen to each other and stay true to what is important to you.

I highly recommend pre-marital counseling for all DC couples. Ashley Seeger of DC Couples’ Counseling is wonderful! We weren’t quite sure how we would benefit from pre-marital counseling, but we were open to the idea, and we still use the tools and advice we received. It’s a great learning experience before you take on your new role as a wife or husband.

We were pleasantly surprised to find that we could take advantage of several discounts just because we were getting married in August in DC. While August in DC can be humid and hot, we knew our wedding would be entirely indoors and unaffected by the weather. We were able to book vendors we otherwise may not have been able to afford!

Gold and Blush Summer Wedding Reception in DC: Lindsay + Ross
December 15, 2015

Welcome back! I’m so excited to share with you the Washington DC wedding reception of Lindsay and Ross. But first, if you missed their elegant church wedding ceremony, be sure to check it out here. Once the couple wed, the group moved to The Carnegie Institution for Science in downtown DC to celebrate at the reception. With lots of sparkle, gold and blush hues and even some formal touches of black, the wedding decor of the day, planned by DC wedding planner Bright Occasions, was jaw-dropping! Their urban wedding location lent itself to a more modern reception, complete with Instagram hashtag signs encouraging guests to get on their social media! The couple also wanted their wedding to be personal and meaningful to them, so there were several nods to their pup throughout the day. That, paired with a vineyard theme found on tables and even place cards tucked into wine corks that led guests to their seats, kept guests (and us!) looking at every turn. A special thanks to Washington DC wedding photographer, Nicholas Griner, for sharing their wine themed wedding with us!

wedding-locations-washington-dc-wedding-Nicholas-Griner

From the bride: We used our vineyard wedding engagement photo as the back drop for our reception table names. The tables were named after our favorite vineyards. We had a wine and vineyard themed place card table and used wine corks as the escort card holders. Our specialty drink was “Brut’s Treat” which is a nod to our furbaby, Brut. My something old, borrowed, and blue were my great grandmother’s rosary beads in my bridal bouquet.

Our nunber one wedding budget priority was staying within our budget range while still achieving the look and feel we wanted for our wedding day. We also prioritized a stunning wedding venue and at the Carnegie we did not need to do much decor since it is such a beautiful venue. We wanted to have great food and drinks for our guests. We wanted to be able to provide our own alcohol, which would give us control of our bar menu. A live band was a “must” for our wedding. We wanted everyone to have a great time!

Advice from the bride for other Washington DC area couples:

A wedding planner or coordinator proved to be worth every penny for us! We were nervous that it would end up costing us more money, but working with Margo at Bright Occasions was fantastic at recommending wedding vendors that offered a lot for our money!

I also recommend to decide early on in the wedding planning process what you can live without, because it is easier to add an element at the end of the process, then to remove it later or have “buyer’s remorse.” Try not to ask for others’ opinions. The wedding planning was stressful at times, but I had to bring it back to it just being about marrying my best friend.

Lastly, let someone else plan and handle your honeymoon logistics!

Gold and Blush Summer Wedding Ceremony in DC: Lindsay + Ross
December 14, 2015

I hope you are ready for a lovely and sparkly summer wedding in Washington DC today! Lindsay and Ross wed in an elegant church wedding ceremony at the beautiful Saint Peter’s on Capitol Hill. Their wedding guests gathered to witness the loving pair exchange vows in a classic and romantic ceremony before a more urban wedding reception was to follow. The bride’s dress and shoes were budget priorities and her regal look was paired perfectly with blush bridesmaid dresses to match, while the groom donned a black tuxedo and white tie, befitting of the formal affair. A highlight for the couple (and for us in these fab photos!) is the moment when they first saw each other as Lindsay walked down the aisle. Then, once the knot was tied, with Capitol Hill in the background, the pair posed for pictures, and got ready to celebrate their brand new union with the help of their wedding planner, Bright Occasions. A special thanks to Washington DC wedding photographer, Nicholas Griner for Lindsay and Ross’ beautiful church wedding photos! Stay tuned for their The Carnegie Institution for Science wedding reception up tomorrow.

formal-wedding-dress-washington-dc-wedding-Nicholas-Griner

From the bride: We wanted to create a classic, romantic Washington DC wedding while incorporating a vineyard theme to a more urban venue. Also a traditional church ceremony was important to us.

Our favorite wedding day memory is seeing each other for the first time during the walk down the aisle at the church. I remember feeling very calm ( I’m usually a ball of stress!) and over-joyed during the whole wedding day – that was awesome!

For our wedding, we decided to skip the wedding video. It was a “if it fit the budget” for us, but it was not a must-have. We also skipped the flowers at the church to help save money. A wedding splurge for us was that we upgraded to some “posh” linens to create a romantic elegant feeling at our reception. Also, we splurged on my wedding dress and shoes.

Elegant and Beautiful Washington DC Wedding Ceremony: Zoe + Chris
November 10, 2015

I hope you are ready for a dose of elegant and beautiful with today’s featured wedding in Washington DC. Zoe and Chris opted for an elegant Washington DC wedding ceremony at the beautiful Meridian House, where they celebrated both their vows and wedding reception. With the help of their wedding planner, A. Dominick Events, their wedding ceremony was lush in white and green formal florals with small rustic and organic touches. The bride donned a wrap around her lace wedding dress, fitting of the fall season in which they wed. The neutral wedding color palette blended perfectly with the pale pink and taupe bridesmaid dresses, which contrasted the dashing groom in his black tuxedo. Thanks to wedding photographer, Kathy Blanchard, the couple’s first look photos are fabulous! I love the joy on Zoe’s face when she sees Chris for the first time! Special thanks to DC-are wedding planner A. Dominick Events for sharing Zoe and Chris’ big day with us and stay tuned for their candlelit wedding reception up next!

From the bride: When we were looking for a wedding venue, we loved Meridian House the minute we saw it and knew it was the one! The outdoor space was perfect for pictures (and cocktail hour, if the weather cooperated!), and the inside of the building was so elegant and beautiful. It seemed perfect for the vibe we wanted to create on our wedding day.

We loved the harp music at the wedding ceremony because it was unique and so different.

Art Deco Inspired Destination Wedding Ceremony in DC: Fernando + Neil
October 26, 2015

Good morning and welcome to one fabulous destination wedding right here in DC! Fernando and Neil tied the knot in their Washington DC wedding at the Donovan House Hotel where their friends and family gathered for a formal affair, complete with amazing art deco wedding details, white calla lily flowers, purple wedding touches, and lots of love between the two! The pair traveled from Austin, Texas to wed in Washington DC in an elegant and sophisticated city wedding, where their love of food, wine, and friends and family clearly shinned through! The grooms’ fashion was also spot on – even with coordinating purple pocket squares and bow ties! But, the focus of their wedding day was on the people (and the food as you’ll see in their wedding reception up on the blog next!), with even their niece playing a pivotal roll in their wedding ceremony. Not even the government’s shutdown during their wedding weekend could slow down this Washington DC wedding couple! A big thanks to their wedding photographer Kelly Prizel and their wedding planner Candy+Co. Events for sharing Fernando and Neil’s big day with us.

From the grooms: We wanted a place for our wedding that our families from around the country could get to easily, with a great metropolitan vibe and easy access to lots of things to do. Washington, DC was a great choice, but we hadn’t counted on the government shutdown, but that did not slow anybody down for our wedding celebration. We designed and put together our own wedding invitations, and with the help of the planner, we chose some nice touches to personalize our event.

For me (Fernando) one of my favorite wedding moments was the minute or two we had with our officiant and personal friend  just before the wedding ceremony. He got us to focus, be in the moment and take a deep breath and reflect for a moment. Then, before we walked down the aisle together, Candy (our great wedding planner) had us take peek in the room and take it all in. I was filled with emotion of the moment that our family and friends had come together for us. I had to pinch myself that it was really happening. We both where so happy. Of course, I will never forget that my niece dropped the wedding rings, which added some levity to the moment and reminded us that life comes with surprises, but together we can easily move on.
