Chic Navy Barn Wedding at Riverside on the Potomac
November 4, 2019

Kimmy and Chris met at Virginia Tech and were close friends before starting to date shortly after graduation. They love the outdoors and (along with many of their wedding guests) are both dedicated Hokies. Their chic navy barn wedding took place on a very windy but very beautiful spring day. The rustic fall reception had casual family-style seating adorned with lanterns, wood stumps, succulents, greenery, and florals. Their navy and blush florals hosted touches of succulents; such a neat idea that is perfect for a chic barn wedding!

In lieu of a traditional grand entrance their their bridal party, Kimmy and Chris opted to add a little more sentimentality to this act. They had each member of the party stand up at the table while Kimmy and Chris spoke about how they know each person, a few highlights about what they’ve been through and what they appreciate about them, and thanked them for being a part of their day. We can’t get over how unique and thoughtful this idea is and how it really lets the couples personalities shine. Thank you to Wolfcrest Photography for sharing this navy Virginia wedding with us today!

Pastel Spring Riverside on the Potomac Wedding
September 16, 2019

All of the details that Jackie and Bryce chose for their soft spring wedding at Riverside on the Potomac were perfection; from the earthy, stunning sage green, lavender, and ivory florals that The Rosy Posy crafted, the delicate calligraphy on the milk jug table number wall display, to the farmhouse tables and sage green chivari chairs that tied in with the bridesmaid’s gowns. Jackie described their vision for their day to be simple, rustic, and elegant, and together, they achieved exactly that. There were so many sweet details peppered throughout the day that made it completely “them.” Jackie was able to highlight her sister as the maid of honor with a stunning chiffon ivory and sage floral gown and Bryce had just his two brothers standing up there with him. This kept the vibe intimate and special. Jackie also had a keepsake of her late grandmother’s thumbprint as part of her bridal bouquet; family is so important to these two and so many of their loved ones traveled from a distance to celebrate with them. There are so many reasons to love this wedding! Thank you to Wolfcrest Photography for sharing this elegant rustic Virginia wedding with us today!

Tell us your proposal story. Bryce asked my parents for their permission by driving up to New Jersey and back in one day. I was in New York visiting my sister at the time and had no idea he was doing this. My dad picked Bryce up at my aunt’s law firm so my best friend and neighbor would not see his truck in my aunt’s driveway. My dad bought lunch and then the interrogation began. They asked all the questions any concerned parents would and at the end of it Bryce had their permission. It was the Friday before Christmas and my whole family planned a day in NYC to see the tree and the Rockettes. Bryce canceled last minute because he couldn’t find a dog sitter and I was really upset. When my family arrived back from the city to my house in NJ, Bryce was there waiting with a videographer and lights everywhere. He got down on one knee and asked! My parents were in on it the whole time but none of my siblings or cousins knew!

What was the most important part of wedding planning for you two? We didn’t want to lose sight of what we wanted as a couple. We did not want a religious wedding, we wanted people dancing all night, we wanted the food to be excellent, we wanted there to be enough booze and we wanted everyone to have a great time. We really focused on the wedding planner, photographer, DJ and food. The venue is so naturally beautiful that floral were important, but not a huge focus. We skipped the wedding cake and went with pies.

Chilly Riverside on the Potomac Winter Wedding
August 22, 2018

Noel and Bryan met in law school in Washington, D.C., but didn’t really get to know each other until after Bryan graduated. Since he stayed in the area to clerk and stayed involved in the law school, the two were able to talk about their careers. These discussions quickly led to a friendship and then, eventually, to more. They tout the friendship and respect that they developed early on as what makes every day together more fun and exciting than the last. We couldn’t agree more with that sentiment!

There’s so much to love about this sweet Riverside on the Potomac wedding. Noel and Bryan said their vows at St. James’ Episcopal Church in Leesburg then headed over to the Virginia barn wedding venue for their reception. This venue is one of our faves and is the perfect blend of rustic and elegant. Their day was record-breaking for early November temperature lows but everyone took it in stride! While each detail of their day was just beautiful, their main priority was that their guests had a great time. However, we can’t stop swooning over the rich emerald bridesmaid dresses and pops of purples and pinks in their florals. And just look at those desserts! Drool worthy. Thank you to Wolfcrest Photography for sharing this elegant barn wedding with us today!

Rustic Riverside on the Potomac Virginia Wedding: Tracey + David
February 9, 2016

Riverside on the Potomac is one of the best barn wedding venues in Virginia, and made for the perfect backdrop to Tracey and Davids rustic Virginia wedding. The couple chose to tie the knot in the fall, as it is Tracey’s favorite season. They paired a color story of rich reds, burnt orange, and natural elements like handmade centerpiece wooden boxes that the groom actually made himself! They were married in a catholic ceremony at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Ashburn before having guests join them for dinner and dancing at the reception. The couple infused the ambiance with carefully designed projects to enhance the decor of the barn. We really loved the large fall wreaths and signage on the reception property that helped guide guests to each part of the wedding day.  A gracious thank you to Kelly Ewell Photography for sending us Tracey and Davids rustic fall wedding ceremony and reception!

From the Bride: I took a piece of my mother, 2 grandmothers, the groom’s mother, 2 grandmothers and his great grandmothers wedding dresses and made a patch which was sewn in the underside of my wedding dress.

The bride carried a hand tied bouquet from B. Floral design overflowing with rich burgundy dahlias that were sourced from a local dahlia farm in Northern Virginia. The florist mixed the dahlias with scabiosa pods, garden roses, astilbe, and sweetheart roses to create fall texture with rich tones.

Advice from the couple: The advice we tell everyone is to pick a date to stop all the planning and prep of any new projects. You can get stuck on all those little details. Ours was 2 weeks before the wedding day. We decided if it wasn’t done by then, it’s not necessary. Enjoy the excitement building up to the big day! We also planned well in advance a final “date night” the week before the wedding. We went to our favorite restaurant in the city the Saturday before the weekend.

The couple loved the laid back atmosphere of Riverside on the Potomac, and wanted guests to feel that they were at a relaxed home party mixed with a traditional wedding. They offered a selection of local and favorite beers along with custom created coozies to double as wedding favors.

When working with a catering company, couples have the opportunity to custom choose all of the reception linens, place settings, and chairs. Tracey and David worked with DC Rentals through Spilled Milk Catering and chose Lace Cut Base plates and Arctic Damask linens to layer on a crisp white table setting to make the rich florals pop in the center of each table. Each guest was also greeted to their place setting with locally sourced honey and thank you notes to start the reception.

Main priorities and splurges for the wedding: Lots of dancing! We did not want wallflowers so a good DJ was important, we hired Bruce Pike from Bruce Pike Productions and our dance floor stayed packed. Our biggest splurge was transportation. We provided full transportation to both the rehearsal dinner and wedding reception to ensure our guests could have a good time without worrying about driving.

Leesburg Wedding Overlooking the Potomac
August 7, 2017

Welcome to another great week of DC wedding inspiration. We are living for this fabulous weather! What an amazing weekend for weddings. We hope that all couples had wedding days that were as smooth as the summer breezes keeping us all cool! Today’s rustic chic wedding took place in the restored barns of the Leesburg wedding venue, Riverside on the Potomac. It’s such a beautiful setting; some of our favorite rustic chic weddings have taken place here! With the ceremony overlooking the winding Potomac River that runs alongside the venue, Kristen and Mike were surrounded by friends and family for an intimate exchanging of vows.

For their wedding, the couple wanted to infuse the vibe of the venue alongside a more classic look. They met this challenge by pairing lace with a mixture of wildflowers, local dahlias, and navy gingham check. We love gingham addition! It works perfectly with the venue. Almost all wedding days are fun, energetic, beautiful, and gloriously hectic roller coasters of emotion and sweet moments. Kristen and Mike orchestrated a wedding day that felt calm, warm, and intimate; each of their vendors said they had a one of a kind wedding day that was sheer perfection! Their joy is so apparent in their photos. Thank you to Audra Wrisley Photography for sharing this lovely Leesburg wedding with us today!!

Colorful Rustic Wildflower Wedding
March 28, 2019

Jessica and Daniel have been “together” since elementary school and they wanted their wedding day to be a reflection of their easy going love. They waited a long time to get to the altar as they wanted Daniel to finish law school. He is almost done but realized marrying Jessica was worth fast forwarding for! How adorable is that? I mean, they have been waiting since third grade so we totally get it. Their long lasting love led to today’s colorful rustic wedding!

The pair wanted a simple, rustic event where their guests could relax, have fun and celebrate with them. Riverside on the Potomac is the perfect mix of elegant and effortless; they were able to achieve the best of both worlds! Overall, they wanted their wedding to be a reflection of their favorite things as a couple. They opted to serve BBQ food for dinner and ice cream (their favorite treat!) instead of cake. It was so perfectly “them.”

Their whole day had dark clouds and it felt like it was going to downpour all day. Luckily Jessica and Daniel got through the ceremony and cocktail hour with no issues. Once the barn wedding reception started the rain fell. After a few minutes of that a giant, full rainbow emerged and the pair ran around Riverside on the Potomac taking photos of them, their perfect love, and that perfect rainbow. We can’t think of a more magical moment!

Tell us your proposal story. Daniel completely surprised me on this; I had no idea a proposal was coming! We both moved to Baltimore for school and work, but one Saturday morning, Daniel suggested we go back to our hometown of Frederick. After stopping for brunch (during which Daniel hardly ate), we went to Gambrill State Park, known for its overlooks of Frederick. We had spent many afternoons in high school and on break in college hiking the trails.

Daniel had planted one of his good friends in the park to be on hand for surreptitious pictures. While the two were taking our photo, Daniel got on one knee to propose. The pictures speak a thousand words; we will love them for a lifetime!

Romantic Leesburg Virginia Wedding
April 9, 2018

Happy Monday! Are you guys ready for a full week of amazing DC area wedding inspiration? We are kicking off today with a romantic Riverside on the Potomac wedding. You know we love a good proposal story and so we just had to share Cory and Annie’s story!

Cory’s sister, Lauren, told Annie that she won four tickets to a dolphin show at the National Aquarium and asked the two of them to go with her. When they checked in they told them the dolphin encounter under Estrain was only for two. Cory and Annie went first. They did the usual dolphin tour and then went with the trainer to meet a Dolphin named Spirit. They were taught how to have Spirit roll, wave and dance with her flippers. She even came out of the water to kiss Annie!

At one point she thought they were playing with them for too long so she went to get Lauren and Paddy so they could have a turn. Suddenly the trainer said,”No, you have to wait because the dolphin wants to throw you a buoy!” When she turned around the dolphin had already swam across the pool, got a buoy from another trainer and flipped it up to her. She caught the buoy, turned it around and it said, “Annie, will you marry me?” She then turned around to look for Cory. He was on his knee with a beautiful ring. Just when she thought he had executed the best engagement ever, he still had something else up his sleeve. Their families were waiting in a restaurant to celebrate!

The pair were married last summer at the gorgeous Virginia wedding venue, Riverside on the Potomac. They achieved the perfect rustic romance in their chosen barn setting with the help of the team at Bright Occasions. Some of our favorite elements would have to be the four tiered nearly naked cake and the floral installation by Edge Florals. Thank you to Kate Fine Art for sharing this lovely Virginia wedding with us today!

Quaint Staunton Engagement Session
March 16, 2018

What a wonderful week of new weddings and inspiration! Did you catch the beautiful Riverside on the Potomac wedding on Monday? Swooning over those florals! Vintage styled engagement ring, snazzy dressed couple, and a charming city make this Staunton engagement session seriously perfect! Dannah and Francois have a love that is to die for. They chose historic and quaint small town for their Virginia engagement session. With Amanda C. Blake Photography, they took to the streets! They stopped along the way for kiss breaks, piggy back rides, and the timeless engagement ring shots! Read more about their story below and thank you to Amanda for sharing their Staunton engagement session with us today!

Tell us your engagement story: “It may not be the most glamorous story but I had told Francois repeatedly I’m hard to surprise and he was destined to surprise me…and he did. We were having a lake day with two of our good friends and my son and theirs, a thunderstorm started to roll in so we began to pack up but I had spoke up that we should take quick photos before leaving. While setting up for the photo of us, I leaned over to pick up my kiddo and when I turned around there was Francois on his knee, so the whole “picture” being taken by my friend was actually a video and so we have on video me just about dropping my son as I’m in shock to see Francois on his knee with a ring in hand! We got a great laugh and still do!”

Pastel Chic Leesburg Wedding
March 12, 2018

What happens when you pair sparkly metallic with bright spring time florals, and a vibrantly happy in love couple? The sheer magic of today’s Riverside on the Potomac pastel chic wedding by Why Knot Events. We love every layer of the aesthetic of this wedding. One of the most noteworthy would have to be the ladies mix matched metallic bridesmaid dresses. And don’t forget the serene backdrop of one of the best Leesburg wedding venue landscape.

Madeline and Luke hosted their friends and family on the terrace overlooking the Potomac for an outdoor fall wedding filled with heartfelt vows and the exchanging of rings. Dinner and dancing followed in the refurbished barn, surrounded by golden candelabras and ruckus dancing and laughter that lasted the night through. Flowers by Lisa really pulled an amazing color story for this wedding through the flowers; we love the pops of pink and peach against the muted linens and attire. Copper metal base plates sat on crisp linens, and gold script table numbers completed the rustic chic design. Thank you to Wolfcrest Photography for sharing their joyous Leesburg wedding with us today!

We cannot be more in love with the ceremony space and the floral designs used in this Barns at Hamilton Station wedding. The wooden barrels, sunflowers, and Barn setting create a rustic vibe while still maintaining the ability for guests to party during the reception. Elegant meets Rustic Virginia Wedding

Riverside on the Potomac Virginia wedding - Timmester Photography (54)

Riverside on the Potomac is on of our favorite rustic venues because of how incredibly versatile the grounds are at this Loudoun County gem. The groom wanted a large affair in a rural setting surrounded by nature, whereas the bride wanted a small wedding at an elegant setting, such as a country club. together, they opted for a super elegant rustic vibe with crip linens, flowing vines, and touches of gold and mercury glass. We can’t get enough of this high end rustic vibe, captured by Timmester Photography.

There were so many personal elements on this wedding, photographed by Stephanie Messick Photography, and you know how we love the addition of those! The groom’s mother made a guest book signing quilt and the bride’s father created all of the woodworking decor details that created this wedding’s homey rustic atmosphere. The couple continued to stay true to their personal style, with red and blue color accents in the barn and cowboy boots under the bride’s gown.

Maryland Rustic Farm Wedding

When this bride and groom began to plan their special day, they knew they wanted a relaxed atmosphere with a very chill bride. Their parents, on the other hand, wanted a more formal affair. In order to combine these two aesthetics, they came up with a classy rustic vibe with crisp white linens, wooden accents, and an amazing wood pallet escort card display with vintage keys. This beautiful day was captured by Paired Images and featured so many amazing design details!

Another stunner by Birds of a Feather Photography, this rustic wedding featured a fall inspired color palette, iconic rustic accessories such as mason jars, burlap, and wood accents, and a lace draped ceremony arch. We love the inside of Sotterley Plantation as the wood beams and cafe lights really brought a new dimension to the day!
