Bright and Bold Wedding Floral Inspiration
May 2, 2019

We are noticing that many DMV couples are opting for bolder toned mid summer weddings. Because of this, Courtney of Loblolly Organic Farm chose to showcase the vibrant florals from their Southern Maryland farm (and other local growers!) to share how couples can incorporate these unique tones into their design. We adore the bright and bold wedding floral inspiration that they created! The seasonal display came to life through the use of pink as the base color. From there they added in tones of coral, fuchsia, red and yellow against a neutral backdrop. The mauve linen really allows the florals to pop while also incorporating a rich feel overall. We are loving how these colors play against the jade candlesticks and the bride’s green floral wedding shoes.

The following Washington DC wedding professionals contributed to this Loblolly Organic Farm Wedding Inspiration:

Fall Atrium at Meadowlark Gardens Wedding
May 9, 2018

Meagan and Kristen wanted to have a day they would never forget, but they did not want the event itself to upstage the meaning of the day. We think this is so important, too! It can be easy to lose yourselves and the “reason for the season” while planning your DC area wedding. Meagan and Kristen worked really hard to not let the wedding get away from them. In the end, their Atrium at Meadowlark Gardens wedding was everything they wanted it to be with personal touches, and meaningful moments.

Kristen proposed to Meagan by creating a photo book of their past eight years together, and on the last page, asked if she would marry her. The day of the proposal, they went to Meadowlark Botanical Gardens to view their Christmas lights display. They ended up getting married there, as well, purely through coincidence and serendipity. It’s a fantastic spot for a proposal and a Virginia garden wedding!

The pair had been in a relationship for ten years prior to getting married, so they wanted to celebrate that milestone with the community that had supported them through their journey. In the end, the result was a perfect combination of the two women, in an intimate same sex wedding ceremony officiated by Reverend Louis Schwebius. For example, Meagan spent a lot of time thinking about the music choices that would set the right tone for the evening. Kristen, as a homebrewer, decided to splurge on getting local Virginia craft beers for the reception. Thank you to Designed Perfectly Events for sharing their colorful Meadowlark Gardens wedding with us today via Matchology.

What were your favorite parts of the day? We had friends fly in from Australia and Ireland for the big day, and it was extremely special to have them present. During the ceremony, our officiant, Rev. Louis, made us pause and take the time to look at everyone in the audience. It was such a beautiful moment because we got to take in all of the love from everyone who was there. Rev. Louis also stopped us at one point during the ceremony to take a synchronized deep breath, which made us and the audience laugh.

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Take it one day at a time; make it about the two of you. Secure the location and vendors you want early – DC and the surrounding suburbs are a competitive market. We had a year and ten months to plan, which is a lot of time, but it allowed us to secure our #1 vendor choices. Once you have the time sensitive elements locked in, you can focus on the details. It was nice for us to have a lot of time to plan and not be rushed. Remember, your wedding is a happy day. After all, you are celebrating love!

Maryland Inspired Wedding Reception in Clarksburg: Mary + Kevin
December 2, 2013

Welcome back to Mary and Kevin’s Maryland-inspired wedding, hon! (Did you see their bright and modern wedding ceremony, too?) The locally inspired details continued on into their wedding reception captured by Tori Nefores Photography. With a “From Maryland, With Love” theme, Mary and Kevin rocked some Maryland gear with a flag tie for the groom, and crab earrings for the bride! And, Mary even had a Baltimore Orioles wedding garter! They also sent guests home with a taste of Maryland with their Utz chips wedding favors – so fun!

From Mary: One of my favorite details was our wedding cake topper which was made in England just for us which was a replica of myself, Kevin, and our dog (a Boston Terrier named Tank) along with an oriole bird and raven at the base. It was an exact replica of my wedding dress and accessories as well as my husband’s. It was perfect and looks exactly like mini-me and mini-Kevin. The perfect touch that will treasure forever as a keepsake!

Mary’s advice for other couples in the DC-area:

My main tip is do not have a long engagement. A wedding really is not that hard to plan. If you space things out and plan to do certain things by this date and these things by that date over each month you will be fine. By the time we hit the two month mark I was ready to get married then! Prioritize, make a list, and space things out over your engagement and you will be fine! Remember a wedding is only one day and you will be married for a lifetime.

Maryland Inspired Wedding Ceremony in Clarksburg: Mary + Kevin
December 2, 2013

As a Maryland girl, I’m so excited to share Mary and Kevin’s modern and locally-inspired wedding in Maryland! For their wedding ceremony, they were inspired by their home state and included special touches throughout their special day. (There’s no place like home, am I right?) Tori Nefores Photography was there to capture their nods to local icons -Natty Boh and Salie Utz – and home teams, all set among a bright pink and orange color palette. And, just wait ’til you see their desserts – yum! But, you’ll have to come back later this morning to see their reception. For now, check out Mary and Kevin’s modern wedding at the gorgeous Milton Ridge in Clarksburg, Maryland.

From Mary: Both being natives of Maryland, our wedding theme was From Maryland with Love. We had nods to our home state and showed our MD pride throughout the entire event. From Maryland themed wedding invitations to having each reception table have a Maryland theme (Orioles, Ravens, Under Armor, UMD, Ocean City, Deep Creek Lake, etc.) our theme was clear to all our guests. We even had Natty Boh on the men’s room door and Salie Utz on the door of the ladies bathroom.

Lilac Leesburg Wedding Inspiration
May 11, 2017

There are so many lovely aspects of this lilac Leesburg wedding inspiration that add to the intimate feeling that the team was going for. We love the color story of creams, antique golds, deep plums, amethyst, and mauve which play perfectly with the rich brown tones of the barn. The invitations are some of our favorites; they were printed on handmade paper and the rich texture, light beautiful colorwash, and raw edges were perfect for the aesthetic of this shoot. The calligraphy is fun and modern, while also feeling timeless. The tablescape that A Charming Affair put together for this shoot is so dreamy! The curved table conveys a cozy feeling while the oversized hanging floral ring brings elegance and luxury. The vintage chandeliers and café lights also add a glow and warmth that works perfectly in the space.

Lark Floral did an amazing job selecting romantic blooms in the perfect color palette – garden roses, spray roses, astrantia, eucalyptus, tulips, ranunculus, anenomies, and others. She even managed to forage for some blush cherry blossoms! These floral centerpieces paired beautifully with the amethyst depression glasses and lilac velvet armchairs.

Fluffy Thoughts designed an stunning cake with fondant details and ranunculus sugar flowers that are hard to believe are sugar; they’re so perfect. Another unexpected and exciting detail in the shoot was the round floating table on which the cake was placed. This detail was a DIY wedding project created with a stained round piece of wood. There were four holes drilled along the sides while string threaded through the holes and tied with knots. A gorgeous chiffon runner was then added to soften the floating table and make it feel romantic and lovely. We love this fun twist on a typical cake table! This shoot achieves a thoughtful, timeless, intimate wedding look that we will be dreaming about for days! Thank you to Erin of A Charming Affair for sharing this warm purple Virginia wedding inspiration with us today!

Elegant Loudoun Barn Wedding
September 27, 2017

Jen and Justin said their I Do’s and celebrated with family and friends at Shadow Creek Weddings, a newer Loudoun County wedding venue in the heart of Loudoun County. This sweet couple met in college six years ago and got engaged in 2015. Justin proposed to Jen while they were at the always gorgeous Bluemont Vineyards with their families. Their wedding day began with an intimate ceremony at St Peter’s Episcopal Church. The couple exchanged personal vows and rings solidifying the years to come as husband and wife.

They planned for a classic meets quaint wedding design. This paired perfectly with the more sophisticated, rustic nature of the venue. The florals from Rick’s Flowers had touches of english garden and design elements reminiscent of a southern manor home. Jen chose whitewashed cake stands, personalized seed packet favors, and floral accents that would continue the southern elegance theme throughout. Much of Jen’s family traveled from England, and other family members came from Gibraltar. In honor of their far traveled guests they offered a traditional English dessert alongside mixed desserts. They also sent off their guests with s’more favors. Thank you to Bethanne Arthur Photography for sharing a look into this elegant Shadow Creek wedding!!

Favorite Moments from the Bride: “My first favorite moment was when I got down the aisle and finally got to see Justin’s face. He was smiling from ear to ear, and I definitely saw a few tears. This was also a slightly funny moment because my dress was long and I hadn’t walked on carpet before. It kept catching on the carpet so I had to kick it forward, and my dad was really worried I was going to trip. However I made it down the aisle without tripping!

Saying our vows was also a very emotional and memorable moment. We had gone over the vows and their meanings in our pre-marital counseling classes at the church so when we finally got to say them to each other it was very special. We plan to frame our vows with some of our wedding pictures. My dad and I’s first dance was very special because he had been working very hard on it. My mom made him go to dance lessons since, even though he loves music, my dad is a terrible dancer. He was so nervous about the dance and getting everything right, and it ended up being absolutely perfect and we both had a lot of fun. “

From the Couple: “While we were planning our wedding the most important thing to us remembering that the most important thing was that we were getting married. Justin and I have been together for six years, and engaged for two of those years. It sounds cheesy, but while we were excited about celebrating our special day with our friends and family, we were really most excited about being married and spending the rest of our lives together.”

“The biggest splurge we had was our food. Justin and I enjoy spending our weekends cooking different types of meals or eating at unique restaurants. We are BIG foodies, so we wanted to make sure the quality of the food was going to be amazing. A la Carte Catering had an amazing quality of food and was very open to all of our requests. “

About the Cake: “So I am well known among my friends and families for my cake baking and decorating. However, I did not want the stress of making my wedding cake, so I was more than happy to hand that responsibility over to our caterer. They made us a delicious lemon raspberry cake that was simply decorated with fresh flowers and our custom Mr and Mrs Weiser topper. They also made us a Baileys chocolate cake as a grooms cake, which is a southern tradition. The topper on the grooms cake was Justin’s parents wedding cake topper. I did end up making one cake, which was our fruit cake. It is traditional in England to have fruitcakes at weddings so my mom and I made one for our wedding and I decorated it shortly before the wedding day with simply white fondant flowers. “

Advice from the Couple: “First of all, always remember that your wedding is about more than just a day, it’s about a marriage. This sounds simple, but it’s important when you are getting bogged down in details and start getting stressed out. Also, when you are planning on a budget decide what is the most important to you. We wanted a good caterer and photographer. Our food was amazing and Bethanne captured the day perfectly so we will always remember it. Also be open to accepting help from people. My mom and sister helped out a lot with the decor, I had a family friend address all of our invitations for us, and one of my bridesmaid’s husband videotaped the wedding for us. They all did an amazing job, and it felt so special coming from people who care about us so much. ”
