Glam Hotel Monaco DC Wedding
February 26, 2018

Jamie and Cory met in June 2014 through an online dating website, which let’s be honest is the “new blind date” of our generation!  Shortly after meeting, they realized they grew up in the same area. While they had a year age difference in school, they had a ton of mutual friends. What a small world! After a year of dating, Cory proposed on a fall afternoon at Hollins Farm. Jamie was apple picking with friends and Cory surprised her by getting down on one knee as the orchard provided the perfect fall backdrop.

Knowing that they wanted to get married in the heart of the city, the pair chose the historic yet modern Hotel Monaco DC wedding site for their nuptials in November. To match the overall ambiance of the glam DC wedding hotel, their day included a romantic palette of black and white with gold and blush accents. Their beautiful florals by Bergeron’s Flowers were woven in perfectly with this palette.

In keeping with Jewish tradition, the ceremony was timed for after sunset on Saturday.  Because they wished to be surrounded by friends and family, the couple chose to have seating in the round. Their draped, floral chuppah was surrounded on three sides. We love when couples opt for seating like this as it creates a more personal wedding experience for guests. Upon entering the reception post ceremony, guests were greeted by champagne-filled glasses with gold and black place card sticks inside. The couple wanted to make sure guests walked into the reception ready to dance, with a bubbly drink in hand. We absolutely love a unique escort card “display.” This is one of our favorites! Thank you to Danielle Real Photography for sharing this glam Jewish Hotel Monaco DC wedding with us today.

Timelessly Classic Hotel Monaco DC Wedding: Jaimie + Jonathan
February 22, 2016

How do you ensure that your wedding stays timeless and understated against one of the cities most boastfully decorated DC hotel wedding venues? For today’s couple, they chose to weave in a subtle yet impacting color story of neutral tones and lush magnolia leaves for their wedding to offset the venue decor. Jaimie let her bridesmaids choose an assortment of gowns in varying textures but in a neutral nude tone so as not to compete with the colorful aesthetic of the Hotel Monaco DC but to also lend to their classically elegant wedding. To add in a layer of interest, they opted for gold accents in their paper designs and floral centerpieces at the reception, which really popped against the magnolia leaves. The bride lost her mother at a young age, and in her honor chose to wear her mother’s bridal gown for the Jewish wedding ceremony. The couple was married under a traditional Chuppah adorned with magnolia leaves and natural birch poles. The couple treated guests to late night snacks post wedding, with the local favorite food truck DC Slices making a special appearance. Thank you to Taylor and Ben Photography for sharing this timeless DC wedding with us!

From the Bride: We chose the Monaco in large part because of it’s playfully bold design, but I knew we would need to be careful not to overdecorate. To contrast the bright colors and fabrics around the hotel, I opted to stick with neutrals for my bridesmaids and the floral arrangements. To keep things interesting, the bridesmaid’s dresses were made of different materials and designs. We also added a pop of gold color wherever possible! We incorporated magnolia leaves throughout the ceremony and reception which gave the wedding a sort of romantic and charming feel.

We saved a lot of money using Paper Source for our invitations. We ended up creating our own with them, and loved how they turned out!We made our programs, which we were very proud of! We bough a heat embosser and the best part was that everyone asked where we had them created.

One of my favorite details from the wedding was the fact that I wore my mother’s dress down the aisle. She passed away when I was two years old, so it was incredibly special having a piece of her there with Jon and I on our wedding day. I remember putting it on, and suddenly feeling incredibly calm. I know that it was special to my dad too, which made it even more meaningful for me. I changed into a reception dress for the second part of the evening of dinner and dancing.

One special aspect of the wedding was that we tried to use small businesses and local vendors wherever possible. I am General Counsel of MakeOffices, a co-working space for small businesses and young entrepreneurs. Notably, our cake vendor was Marissa from LouLous Cakery and the guys socks came from Nice Laundry which were both previous companies in our office space which connected us with their small businesses.

Advice from the Bride: Finding the right vendors for you is key. We made sure to pick people who made us feel relaxed and that everything was under control, for us this made a world of a difference in our wedding day. Also, we’d definitely encourage incorporating something into your day that’s reflective of you as a couple. For Jon and I, the pizza truck was a no-brainer, and everyone who knows us thought it was the perfect way to end the night.

Romantic Blush Wedding at Hotel Monaco DC: Robin + Sandeep
January 11, 2016

Looking at this beautiful couple, you can literally feel the love radiating off the screen during their Hotel Monaco DC wedding. The couple infused both of their cultures into the wedding with a sandalwood garland exchange as a nod to his Indian heritage, and a unity candle lighting and personal vows for their civil ceremony. The couple opted to focus in on the things that were very important to them, such as an amazing band, Doctor’s Orders, and having plenty of personal touches involved in their wedding, such as the pretty awesome grooms cake as a nod the the brides southern roots! My favorite detail has to be Robin’s girly wedding dress and stunning bouquet by Wild Green Yonder. The oversized dinner plate dahlias and trailing greens conveyed such a romantic tone that was perfectly balanced by the light pink bridesmaid dresses! A big thank you to Maryland based photography team at Birds of a Feather Photos for sharing this heart warming Hotel Monaco celebration with us!

From the bride: It was most important to us that our wedding was a joyful day and that everyone had a wonderful, fun time for all of our guests, and we wanted to remember it forever. For us, that meant we needed an awesome band, delicious food and drinks, and the perfect photographers. We wanted our wedding day to be a reflection of us that was classic, elegant, and timeless with special touches that would separates ours from a traditional wedding. Our goal was to design a wedding that would feel both grand and intimate, a happy celebration that respected the solemnity of the union we were entering into.

During the week before the wedding, the bride hosted a traditional Mehndi, or henna, party for her mother, sisters, future mother-in-law, bridesmaids, and female friends. All of the women wore saris that were gifted to the guests and had henna designs drawn on their hands. The bride had henna drawn on her hands and feet, with the groom’s name hidden in the design for him to find.

As for our photographers, we cannot give them enough of the positive praise they deserve. Betty and Maggie, of Birds of a Feather Photography, were excellent from beginning to end, and beyond. They have found the perfect balance of professionalism and personality. Throughout the entire wedding day, I felt they were instrumental in making sure everything ran smoothly and perfectly while simultaneously letting us enjoy every second of the day. They were unobstrusive but captured every special moment that we could hope to remember in photographs.

Advice from the bride: Don’t be pushed into spending more than your comfort level. We focused on working with vendors who would customize their services to meet our needs and our budget. Our florist, Lori at Wild Green Yonder, was a delight to work with. She customized our floral design to our budget and we got everything we wanted and more.

Bringing our vision to life resulted in a civil ceremony, encircled by our guests, that included both traditional American and Indian wedding rituals, tuxedos and saris, a dear friend as the officiant, and exchanging vows that we wrote for each other. My favorite memory from the day was that I remember standing, before all of our family and friends, across from my groom and listening to the vows he had written to me, and, when he was finished, asking if I could kiss him. I was told I would have to wait.

The band was one of the first vendors we booked for our wedding and we could not have been more thrilled with their performance at our reception! Everyone was on the dance floor all night and our guests still rave about our great band. After the ceremony and cocktail hour, we kicked off our reception with a choreographed dance to “For Once in My Life.” For the father-daughter dance, the bride and her father surprised the guests with a choreographed dance to “Rocky Top,” as an homage to the bride’s alma mater.

Advice from the Bride for other Washington DC area couples:

Remember that, as the bride and groom, you’re on the same team! Listen to each other and stay true to what is important to you.

I highly recommend pre-marital counseling for all DC couples. Ashley Seeger of DC Couples’ Counseling is wonderful! We weren’t quite sure how we would benefit from pre-marital counseling, but we were open to the idea, and we still use the tools and advice we received. It’s a great learning experience before you take on your new role as a wife or husband.

We were pleasantly surprised to find that we could take advantage of several discounts just because we were getting married in August in DC. While August in DC can be humid and hot, we knew our wedding would be entirely indoors and unaffected by the weather. We were able to book vendors we otherwise may not have been able to afford!

Pretty Pastel Alexandrian Hotel Wedding
May 21, 2018

Happy Monday! You are in for some beautiful wedding inspiration this week. Kirk and Jennifer got ready at The Alexandrian Hotel (formerly Hotel Monaco of Alexandria) for their Virginia wedding. They then had a first look in Wales Alley before heading over to Georgetown for their ceremony at Holy Trinity. After the ceremony the bride, groom, and wedding party took portraits at the Historic Tudor Place followed by a reception at The Alexandrian.

Their blush and cream wedding was stunning. Their signature cocktails looked delicious and their flowers accented the space perfectly. Guests enjoyed a take-away gift of Krispy Kreme doughnuts since the two shared one on their first date. They also had fun cocktail napkins that said: Fact: Kirk Egan his proposal to Jenn by saying “Let’s Do This!” What a great way to inject a little personality into the big day. Thank you to Lisa Blume Photography for sharing this Alexandrian hotel  wedding with us today.

Very Merry Christmas DC Wedding
December 19, 2017

We have an extra treat for our readers this week; a bonus DC Christmas wedding for not two but three real wedding features before the holiday break! We loved seeing the holiday cheer in Mike and Kristin’s fun wedding from Nat Wongsaroj Photography and knew we had to fit it in before Christmas! In January 2012, Mike & Kristin met at a mutual friend’s going away party. It only took Mike the whole year, but by December 8th he finally had the courage to ask Kristin out. This led to a great three hour date at Rustico. Three amazing years later, Mike proposed on Thanksgiving day surrounded by their immediate families.

The couple planned their DC Hotel Monaco wedding for a year later to celebrate their love surrounded by family and friends during the “most wonderful time of the year.” The holiday season was not only a favorite of the couple but the bride thought it would be special to commemorate their first date with a seasonal wedding. Once Mike came into her life, Kristin frequently remembers waking up so happy & excited, that she would say to him “this feels like Christmas morning.” How adorable is that? The  couple’s goal for their day was to create an atmosphere that felt cozy and loving like Christmas morning!

Fun fact: the bride’s mom played classic Christmas tunes to welcome the guests prior to the ceremony! To personalize the space, they included family Christmas heirlooms, doughnuts for Christmas morning breakfast, mistletoe, holiday lights, and cookies baked by their moms.  The couples all time favorite Christmas movie, “Home Alone” was immortalized in the Save the Date, and the “Home Alone” theme song bridal processional made for a unique entrance. Their love for music was present in the themed jingle bell place cards and oldies record table names. We love the personal touches throughout their Christmas wedding day! Congrats to the newlyweds as they share many more holidays together!

Don’t miss their adorable wedding video by Bowen Films!

Navy and Blush Hotel Monaco Wedding
November 15, 2017

Blush has been and always will be the go to color for so many weddings. While we love the muted pastel hue, it always delights us to get a wedding submission that uses a more bold tone. Today’s real wedding fits the bill with navy blue and sparkly gold as its focal colors! Lindsay and Daniel worked with Chancey Charm Weddings to create a classic meets romantic Hotel Monaco DC wedding. From the bride’s perfectly textured white and blush bridal bouquet to the groom’s immaculately fitted dark suiting, we love how their personal attire launched the look for the day. Just look at how timeless it all is!

The couple exchanged vows and guests proclaimed Mazel Tov under a floating chuppah in a traditional Jewish wedding ceremony. The ballroom was later transformed by Petals Edge during cocktail hour to a seated dinner reception, with twinkling candles, gold patterned linens, and a mixture of various style floral centerpiece to create an entirely new look to the room. Wanting to incorporate their iconic hometown, the DC skyline was layered into wedding day paper. See if you can catch a peek in their menus and cute welcome bag maps! Thank you to Jillian Michelle Photography for sharing this timeless Hotel Monaco DC wedding with us today!

Colorful Jewel Toned Ballroom DC Wedding
May 8, 2017

The vibrant color palette of this DC hotel wedding is beautiful! We love that Kristina and Iyad weren’t afraid to pair a bright, punchy green with various shades of purple. They really brought the ballroom to life! Just look at those stunning tall centerpieces by Amaryllis Event and Floral Design and the fun glassware that they wove into their tablescape. We love how they worked with the design of their venue, Hotel Monaco DC, rather than against it! When you have such a bold, fun space like this one, building your design plan with that space in mind is key.

We always love a good engagement story and Kristina and Iyad certainly have one! A surprise timeline, a beautiful and personal city, and an adorably nervous groom made for an unforgettable moment for these two. They were in the city of Jerusalem, where the groom was born, on the balcony of their hotel room overlooking the city. The proposal itself wasn’t a surprise, but the timing was. Iyad made a big deal about how Kristina needed to go to a jeweler with him so he’d know what she wanted so a proposal at that time was totally unexpected! When he proposed, Iyad was so nervous that he put the ring on the wrong hand! How cute is that? Thank you to Susie and Becky Photography for sharing this colorful jewel toned DC wedding with us today!

Timeless Downtown DC Wedding
May 3, 2017

Here at United with Love, we love a romantic and unique wedding day. Maggie and Eddie had just that! Because of this, we were excited when DC area wedding planner Vicky Choy of Event Accomplished shared this timeless downtown DC wedding ceremony with us because Maggie and Eddie were married by three officiants! Each one represented an important part of their lives, something that we find so sweet! The Reverend Neely Towe was the bride’s pastor when she was growing up and a very close family friend. Father Jack Wall is the president of Catholic Extensions and close family friend of the groom’s family in Chicago. Father Ted Munz was the President of Loyola Academy where the groom attended high school, and is a close family friend. We love how they both incorporated elements of their past into their ceremony to add that special touch!

The design of Maggie and Eddie’s wedding strikes a balance of modern with a nod to the classic and it all started with the gold belt that accented Maggie’s wedding dress! Maggie carried a bouquet of classic ivory roses, white ranunculus and white phalaenopsis orchids; a white phalaenopsis orchid boutonniere finished off Eddie’s tuxedo. We love all of the floral choices by Petals Edge because they really went hand in hand with the overall aesthetic and looked absolutely stunning in the space.

The room was bathed in a warm amber lighting which accented the architectural details throughout. Dinner tables were dressed in ivory, accented with gold chargers and napkin rings, navy blue menu cards with gold ink, and centered with an arrangement featuring a ring of  boxwood surrounding white hydrangea, stock, roses, and lisianthus. The wedding cake was a stunner by Fluffy Thoughts Bakery and mimicked Maggie’s belt with it’s gold banding design. The beautiful confection was situated atop a wreath of boxwood.

Peachy Summer Hotel Monaco Wedding
May 1, 2017

We always love an adorable love story and Stephen and Kelley are the perfect example of that. Before we dive into their beautiful Alexandria Virginia wedding, let’s hear a little bit about their relationship! In August 2012, Stephen and Kelley crossed paths while both working on political campaigns in North Carolina. They were introduced through a mutual friend on the night of the 2012 Republican Convention. Over the next few weeks the two went on a few innocent dates and became friends. After the election, Kelley moved to the State capital and Stephen to the Nation’s.

Stephen spent the next 2 years planning reasons to be in Raleigh and their friendship continued to grow. Stephen finally recruited enough of Kelley’s friends to join his personal campaign and they persuaded Kelley to give him a chance. Kelley came to Washington as Stephen’s date for Taste of the South 2014, a well known black tie charity fundraiser where Hill staffers dress to the nines for a night of shenanigans, drinks, and southern specialty foods. All hopped up on KFC and Krsipy Kreme, Stephen and Kelley officially began their relationship.

After months of long distance dating, Kelley moved to DC to be with her love, Stephen. In order to pull off the perfect proposal, Stephen called in one of the original Team Stephen campaigners and future maid of honor, Lauren. Stephen laid out a broad plan – having immediate families from both sides together in Raleigh for a brunch celebration. Stephen ordered roses the night before, and gave Lauren the ring. Lauren was also in charge of corralling the family members, shuffling them to a waiting location across a courtyard from the restaurant, and keeping them hidden. All went off exactly as planned. Afterward, the two families celebrated with mimosas and crepes. Thank you to Evelyn Alas Photography for sharing this beautifully peachy Hotel Monaco wedding with us today!
