Holiday-Inspired Wedding Welcome Bags
December 23, 2014

‘Tis the season for winter wedding inspiration and ideas! Today we’re talking about wedding welcome bags and how to add a little holiday cheer to them! (Be sure to take a look at our past posts on what to include in a Washington DC wedding welcome bag, a Maryland wedding welcome bag, and a Virginia wedding welcome bag!) Meg, owner of Welcome To My Wedding, an out-of-town wedding welcome bag packing service company here in the DC-area, returns to the blog to talk more about wedding welcome bag ideas” with a touch of holiday-inspired details, of course! (And don’t miss her last post on wedding welcome bag dos and dont’s!) On that note, take it away, Meg¦

With the holidays upon us, I have made a list of some of my favorite holiday-themed additions for welcome bags. All of these items are great ways to add some cheer to welcome bags or favors for December and even January weddings.

Christmas Tree in a Can

These mini trees come in a can or a cube that you water and then can plant in the ground after they grow. They are fun, festive and smell delicious plus if you buy in bulk you can customize the labels.

Holiday Cookies

My favorite part of the holidays (after decorations of course!) are the cookies. Add gingerbread cookies or shortbread to your welcome bags or bake cookies from a family recipe for a personalized touch. You can do these yourself or contact a local bakery to make them for you.

Candied or Spiced Nuts

Nuts are one of my favorite additions to welcome bags to give your guests a more substantial snack. Make them holiday-themed by adding a little sugar or spice as a DIY project or find tons of pre-made varieties online.

Hot Drinks

Adding a custom drink to your welcome bag is always a fun idea. Try something to warm your guests up after a day of traveling. My favorites for the holidays are hot chocolate with peppermint schnapps or all of the fixings for a hot toddy. Add in a custom mug with a cute saying like Baby, its cold outside!

Coasters

Coasters are a cheap and easy keepsake to add to a welcome bag. For the holidays, I love white coasters with Cheers! in gold and your names and wedding date. Check out Etsy for more ideas or to customize your own.

Confetti Poppers

Who doesn’t love confetti? Confetti poppers are a fun addition for all holiday weddings, not just New Years. There are tons of different kinds and you can easily customize your own from the color of the confetti itself to the sticker on the outside.

Holiday Themes

Mix and match the ideas above or take your welcome bags to the next level by putting together a bag of items that all go with a holiday theme. Two of my favorite themes are Snow Day with hot chocolate, cookies, and maple syrup candies and Ringing in the New Year with champagne, truffles and confetti poppers. Tie it all together with some great custom packaging and a welcome note that explains your idea!

Happy holidays from Welcome To My Wedding!

Emerald Barn Wedding Inspiration
January 15, 2020

Our typically unpopular opinion is that, magnolia leaves are one of the most underutilized greens for DC area weddings. We love their hearty texture, nod to classic southern foliage, and the depth they bring to bridal bouquets and centerpieces. Petals Edge Floral Design worked with our favorite greens, in todays emerald barn wedding inspiration shoot. The bride’s dense textured bouquet was perfect for the emerald wintery tones through this beautiful inspiration shoot. The team on this creative inspiration wanted to offer a more rich color story for winter brides who wanted an alternative to the traditional “holiday color stories” seen during the winter months. We love it! Thank you to D.A.M Fotografy for sharing this lovely inspiration shoot with us! Make sure to check out more Magnolia wedding inspiration in our archives if you love this look as much as we do.

Maryland Holiday Soiree Inspiration
November 21, 2019

Imagine hundreds of twinkle lights wrapped inside wisteria branches arching over a patio that overlooks 100 acres of exquisite grounds in Harford County. Today’s cozy and chic winter welcome dinner is what holiday dreams are made of! This holiday party was housed inside a Georgian Revival mansion that dates back to 1898 and was filled with magic that only this time of year can bring.

Steelcut Flower Co. decked the halls with non-traditional textured magnolia leaves, dark red roses, and hand painted gold greenery. Talk about major holiday vibes! The Concert Truck serenaded nearly 40 guests as they sipped hot chocolate and festive holiday cocktails while cozying up on velvet settees. Seriously, we wish this decor was present in our living rooms right now. Are we alone? Doubt it! Small bites were wrapped like presents and served in other whimsical ways by servers wearing Tartan plaid ties to match the runners in the stunning and festive, holiday-inspired tablescape.

Directly following cocktail hour, guests were invited to be seated at charming Barnes Farm Tables with chic place settings from Pretty Little Wedding Co. where guests enjoyed an incredible 3 course dinner. Each seat was set with a hand lettered ornament and delicate contemporary black and white menus. Our favorites at Urban Row Photography captured it all beautifully and truly brought the spirit of the holidays to life.

Industrial Chic Long View Gallery Wedding
February 4, 2019

Nikki and Laurent met the good old fashioned way by swiping right. But after a classic DC first date (her coming from the Hill and him running late) it was clear the meeting was anything but just another Hinge date. Their first date took place in the middle of the holidays, preventing a sooner second date. However, they didn’t miss a beat, texting every day. The rest is history. We’re thankful for that swipe because it led to this beautiful industrial chic Long View Gallery wedding!

On their wedding day Nikki and Laurent wanted to celebrate their love with an industrial chic celebration. These two are some of the coolest people you will ever meet and their wedding perfectly reflected their personalities. The incredible wedding details range from mixed vintage furniture and an Edison bulbs installation to painted acrylic signage, geometric “bouquets” and family style cheese plates preset on the dinner tables.

The only member of Nikki and Laurent’s family that was not able to be present on the big day was their beloved pup, Frasier. Frasier was not far from mind however and made an appearance on cocktail napkins and stir sticks. They also had super unique favors for their guests with furry friends; a dog treat favor station made for a fun guest take home surprise. Thank you to Sweet Clementine Events for sharing this art gallery wedding with us today!

Stately Virginia Bay Wedding
January 14, 2019

Today’s couple, TJ and Mia, have a pretty funny “meet cute.” We’re excited to share not only their story, but their whole stately Virginia bay wedding with you today.  First of all, the pair met at a mattress store. She was shopping with her mom during a holiday sale and TJ was the manager of the store. After putting on his best salesman pitch, he took a big risk the very next day. He called Mia’s mother under the guise of good customer service to get Mia’s phone number. Her mom said no (ha!), but she reluctantly took TJ’s information and shared it with Mia. Mia was shocked, confused, and a little creeped out; however, after a little coaxing , she sent TJ a quick text and the rest is history.

TJ and Mia wanted their wedding to be beautiful and elegant. TJ is from Alabama and Mia is from Washington, DC and a lot of their choices for their wedding were about bringing in both of their backgrounds. The couple chose a venue by the water, since TJ used to spend a lot of time by the riverwalks when he was younger; Mia really pushed for features of their wedding to have a classic, chic feeling. The outdoor waterfront ceremony achieved TJ’s goals while the ballroom reception space achieved Mia’s. They brought in fall wedding colors with deep purples and reds, but focused their color pallette to be golds, silvers, creams, and blush. Make sure you catch a glimpse at their wardrobe change. Mia’s jumpsuit is to die for! Thank you to Chip Dizard for sharing this Virginia wedding with us today.

Rustic Chic Wedding in Loudoun County
November 26, 2018

We hope everyone enjoyed the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend with friends, family, and loved ones. We know we left the dinner tables (yes, there were multiple meals…) with full bellies and hearts! Now we’re here to bring some some beautiful wedding inspiration with today’s rustic chic wedding in Loudoun County.

Christa and Nick were married at the beautiful Shadow Creek wedding venue in Purcellville, VA. Their day was casual and rustic, befitting their romantic countryside barn wedding venue. We adore their organic florals and deep burgundy, gold, and lighter berry tone fall color palette. For a fun, unique treat for their guests they hosted an apple cider bar, firepits, homemade applesauce favors, and games of cornhole. Following the ceremony, the venue’s horse, Gus, visited during cocktail hour. How cute is that? Their day is so perfectly cozy, adorable, and fun! Thank you to Wolfcrest Photography for sharing this fall Virginia wedding with us today.

Gold and Burgundy Fall Vineyard Wedding
September 24, 2018

Matt and Mariah connected through the dating app Hinge. If you have heard of Hinge, it matches people through friends of friends. Both of them were convinced by their social circles to join. Also, they had both only met their mutual contact once, at separate holiday parties. If he hadn’t added them on Facebook, they very well could have never met! We like to think they would have found a way though… The two messaged one another for about 2 weeks before they had their first date. Matt was the only person Mariah agreed to go on a date with; Mariah was the only girl Matt asked out a second time.

Their fall vineyard wedding was stunning! They brought in a rich wine color story and paired it with white and gold accents; the result is beautiful. Using the burgundy, dusty rose, gold and ivory as their colors knowing they would compliment the natural colors in nature for their Maryland outdoor ceremony. The overall feel is an elegantly classic wedding on a perfect crisp fall day!

Their overall wedding day vision was to have an outdoor wedding to take advantage of the fall foliage, with a formal, elegant feel. Springfield Manor provided a perfect backdrop with all the amenities the couple was seeking. Being able to have a ceremony outside with a beautiful pergola and then move inside to their ballroom was exactly what they had in mind. The style was  timeless; it was important that they could look back at their wedding photos in 50 years and not cringe at the fashion trends that had come and gone. We think they nailed it! Thank you to Susie and Becky Photography for sharing this Maryland vineyard wedding with us today!

Tell us your proposal story. We had always talked about being together for the long haul, but never specifically discussed a proposal. The closest we ever got to it was my asking if Matt “wanted all the rest of that stuff”. Matt told me he had to be on at least two more of my family’s Christmas cards before I got a ring.

Matt proposed on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at the Taft Monument on the Mall. The cherry blossoms were in peak bloom, and Matt told me he wanted to take me for a picnic. He had made a photo book of all our adventures over the past two plus years, and wrote a sweet and thoughtful note at the end. I was already blown away at getting an unexpected gift; I was tearing up. As I finished looking through the book, Matt stood up and told me he wanted to start another chapter in our story. It was then that I actually clued in and realized he was proposing.

Matt had thought of every last detail. He had a friend take me to get my nails done the day before. He also encouraged me to get “all the way ready” that morning. A photographer friend was also hiding in the bushes snapping pictures. He also arranged for me to have the night off (unbeknownst to me) and made dinner reservations for the two of us. We spent the day laying under the cherry blossoms, sharing our news with family and friends.

Coastal Cranberry and Blue Maryland Wedding
July 11, 2018

We hope you all had a fantastic 4th of July week of fun! In honor of last weeks big American holiday we are bringing you a coastal Maryland wedding that includes a red white and blue color story. Alex and McKenna are high school sweethearts! They started dating they sophomore year of high school. Since McKenna have a twin brother, they had the same friend group. The pair started getting to know each other more at a friends NYE Party. Alex asked her to be his girlfriend a couple weeks later. 10 years later, they we married in a gorgeous Maryland wedding celebration!

Both Alex and  McKenna are from a waterfront community in southern Maryland, and spent most summer days and nights on the water with friends and family. Because of this, they knew they wanted a waterfront wedding in southern Maryland that spoke to the hometown charm they both grew up with. Woodlawn Farm was the first venue they looked at, and they booked it immediately. It was exactly what they were looking for. The bride’s vision was coastal and timeless. She wanted a fall color palette that included burgundy, a dusty blue and green, and a neutral sand color for balance. It turned out so beautifully! Thank you to Amanda Adams Photography for sharing this wedding with us today.

What is your proposal story? It was filled with all of our favorite pastime moments. We did long distance all 4 years of college (Me in NC, him in MD), and Alex would come to North Carolina around the beginning of February to celebrate three holidays around that same time of year: Our anniversary, my birthday, and valentine’s day. We would always rent a cabin and head to the mountains for the weekend.

For his proposal, he planned a weekend getaway for our 9th anniversary to the mountains in Shenandoah Valley like old times. We cooked our favorite meals including a spaghetti dish he made for me the first time I spent the weekend on his boat our junior year of college (he lived on a sailboat for that summer). Saturday night we went to dinner, and when we returned to the cabin, there were candles, chocolate covered strawberries, and champagne set up on the table and he asked me to marry him in the sweetest words!

My necklace is a family heirloom passed down to every generation for their wedding day. However, the ownership goes to the granddaughter. So after the wedding, I had to give it back to my grandma. When she passes, it skips my mom and goes to me for ownership.

What were your favorite parts of the day? Can I say the whole day was my favorite? I absolutely loved getting ready with all of my favorite ladies all day in the main house on the venue property. From mimosas/coffee and pastries in the morning, to dancing around the main house to our favorite songs, it was unforgettable. Obviously seeing my groom for the first time walking down the aisle, and celebrating with all of our friends and family at the reception was amazing. Our families got into some pretty serious dance battles at the reception!
