Classic All White Four Seasons Georgetown Wedding
December 18, 2019

November is one of those months that is completely unpredictable weather-wise; it could be a warm, fall day that makes you feel like summer is still just around the corner or it could be bitter cold reminding that yes, indeed, winter is coming. Unfortunately, Taylor & Jake experienced the latter on their winter wedding day, complete with over twenty mph winds. The wind was rushing so hard that it literally was pushing folks backwards as they made the walk from vehicle to ceremony. And while the National Cathedral is one of the most beautiful architectural pieces in all of DC, the inside is very dark, so besides one small alcove where she was able to capture the first look, all photos from Alicia Lacey Photography were to be taken outside. And these two? Not one complaint, says Alicia.

Taylor was stunning in her Pnina Tornai dress (although, no surprise, she is one of the effortlessly beautiful women that would look good in a sack!) and somehow, in spite of the weather, was in the best spirits throughout wedding party photos, family photos, and couples portraits all outdoors. Their wedding party and family was equally accommodating. The merriment continued throughout the entire evening as everyone arrived at the Four Seasons for cocktail hour and the beautiful reception!

Sunrise Georgetown DC Engagement Session
March 22, 2019

Today’s couple, Chris and Sara, honored their proposal story by going back to the spot where it all happened, Georgetown. Chris proposed to Sara in down by the waterfront after quite a few delays! Intrigued? Keep scrolling for the whole story! For their DC engagement session they went along with their photographer Porter Watkins, to tour the whole area at the crack of dawn! As you can see, this was a great choice as the lighting in their photos is phenomenal.

They chose to explore the lesser known corners of Georgetown for their photos, which is something we absolutely love. DC has so many nooks and crannies that are perfect for engagement sessions. Not sure where to take your engagement photos? Check out some of your favorite neighborhoods. We’re sure there are some hidden gems; the DC area is full of surprising wall art, cute streets, and intriguing doors to serve as colorful and creative backdrops!

Tell us about the proposal: Our proposal got pushed back a few times between the months of November and December in 2017. I had wanted to propose on a trip to Virginia Tech (my alma mater); however, the ring had not yet arrived so my next plan was a trip to Florida. That trip to Florida was eventually cancelled in favor of a trip to California (which wouldn’t work since it was for a friend’s engagement party).

I had said multiple times that I refused to propose on a holiday like Valentines, birthdays, Christmas or New Years Eve, but was running out of time to still propose without waiting until the next year. In the lead up to Christmas, we planned a trip to town for dinner and walking through Georgetown Glow. To bring everything full circle, those plans got pushed by one day due to rain on the 23rd.

On Christmas Eve, we got fancied up and went to Farmers Fishers Bakers at the Georgetown waterfront. While approaching the ice skating rink I noticed the fountain that overlooks the ice rink and Potomac. I commented that after dinner we should get a picture in front of it. We finished dinner and headed up where I tried to find someone who may be able to understand what I was about to do quickly. As we got together to take the photo, I got down on one knee and was lucky enough to have our generous bystander take some video and a couple of (poorly lit) photos of the moment. I was also lucky enough to not fall into the fountain… which did almost happen.

Sweet Georgetown Engagement Session
February 15, 2019

Rachel and David met at a bar in DC called Madhatter. She was there for her brother’s going away party, and David was out with a friend. They ran into each other near the dance floor, and the rest is history! He proposed in Colorado at Pikes Peake, surrounded by breathtaking views of the mountains. Rachel and David chose Georgetown for their engagement session since they spent a lot of their dating relationship in the city.

Georgetown neighborhood is where the pair first said “I love you” so where could be more fitting for their photos?! The used the quaint houses, steps, and gardens in the area as their backdrop, which we love. This city has so many adorable little spots for photos; we just can’t get over it! As they moved to the waterfront, they changed outfits. David’s family is from Nigeria, so they decided to wear traditional African outfits to reflect his family’s culture. In his culture, couples and families wear matching prints to show their unity. We think that is SO sweet and we love that they incorporated that into their Georgetown engagement photos! Thank you to Emily Alyssa Photography for sharing this sweet engagement session with us today!

Fall Georgetown City Tavern Club Wedding
October 17, 2018

Today’s couple, Katie and Thomas,  met at a Jazz in the Garden event thrown by their graduate program. “So DC, I know,” says Katie! The two didn’t realize that they were in the same program but they ended up having a class together that semester. Katie would always make sure to sit where she could see Thomas; “I wanted to look at something cute during class!” How adorable are they?! Their fall DC wedding was held at Christ Church Georgetown and City Tavern Club.

We love the pops of red in the florals and Katie’s shoes that really stand out among the clean, crisp white of their decor. The clusters of fruit featured in all of their centerpieces was also a fun touch! We’re suckers for unique centerpiece designs and this one really evokes fall for us. The alternating jade green and gold rimmed dinner plates are also a great detail; we just can’t get enough of those pops of color. Thank you to Liz Stewart Photography for sharing this City Tavern Club wedding with us today!

Tell us your proposal story. Thomas asked at the National Gallery November 3, 2016 (one day and year before our wedding!). He had asked my parents for their blessing nearly a month before, unbeknownst to me until my Dad spilled the beans. But I put it far from my mind, convinced that it wasn’t coming any time soon. However, as we traveled to the National Gallery of Art it occurred to me that maybe, just maybe, he was going to propose. But as we kept circling room after room with no proposal in sight (or ring box, for that matter) I thought that I had completely misread the situation and was dead wrong. As I was busy telling myself to not show that I was really disappointed, he took me by surprise; he dropped to one knee in an empty gallery and popped the question. A bonus? It was in front our a favorite painter of ours: Winslow Homer. The piece? “Breezing Up (a Fair Wind).”

Golden Metallic Georgetown Wedding
August 20, 2018

Welcome back for a fresh week of really unique DC area wedding inspiration! Shauna and Leu were married last fall at the Georgetown DC wedding favorite, Sequoia Restaurant. One of the great reasons we love that area so much is the abundance of beautiful locations for portraits. And the pair definitely took advantage of this for their first look. Both were a ball of nerves until they met on the waterfront in a private moment before the ceremony. While we fully support weddings with and without a first look, the biggest benefit to seeing each other before the wedding is being able to utilize sunset! Having a first look allowed them to get in gorgeous sunset portraits before the big walk down the aisle despite the fact that their wedding was in the fall. Not to mention their and fun bridal party moments, as well.

After portraits, the couple were married in front of a custom modern greenery backdrop by the talented Elegance and Simplicity. We love the modern metallic touches throughout the day. They softened these touches with the abundance of unique greenery elements! Hands down our favorite moment of the day (we were lucky enough to be first hand witnesses!) was when at the end of the night, all the guests went outside for their glow stick send off and the couple had one more “last dance” privately alone with the band. It was such a sweet moment to celebrate such a whirlwind day; we love when couples invest in the moments over details! We wish Shauna and Leu years of happiness together! And thank you to Procopio Photography for sharing this wedding with us today!

Georgetown Canals Engagement Session
July 27, 2018

Because of the crazy weather around the time of this Georgetown engagement session, these photos almost didn’t happen. There was a good chance of thunderstorms and lighting, but Brooke and Alex decided to take a chance! It really paid off this time; their session was absolutely gorgeous! When Brooke got out of the car in her pink, tulle skirt, their photographer, Candice Adelle Photography, knew it was going to be magical. Every laugh and smile is so genuine. And talk about location! We love the unique surroundings of the Georgetown Canals. They’re a hidden gem in this city and they’re just so quintessentially DC! Thank you to Candice Adelle Photography for sharing this intimate Georgetown canals engagement session with us.

Historic Georgetown Wedding Inspiration
April 26, 2018

Today we are excited to show you this historic Georgetown wedding inspiration. Perfectly situated in one of the oldest neighborhoods in DC, this vintage influenced, city-centric styled shoot pays homage to the historical heritage of Georgetown. Drawing inspiration from the past, the team behind this wedding inspiration looked to mix modern style with timeless tradition. They did a fantastic job showcasing all the amazing neighborhood (and city) has to offer. If you’re planning a Georgetown wedding or engagement session, you won’t want to miss this shoot. Since the team traveled all of the neighborhood, you will find some great ideas!

The use of roses in wedding floral design is a time-honored tradition. Providing a pop of color, these handcrafted displays of floral artistry served as an organic bridge between the past and the present. And they looked amazing against the bride’s unique lace gown in addition to the vintage rentals.

We especially loved how the desserts seemed to be a shining star of this shoot. They were the most noteworthy in our eyes! What could be better than beautiful desserts? Tying into the floral design, the four tiered cake hosted handmade flowers in a diagonal design. Sugar peonies, roses, flower buds, and greenery can all be spotted on this stunning cake. As a result, the cake was one of our favorite parts! And don’t forget about the delicious macarons and cupcakes. The dessert table looked truly scrumptious!

Georgetown Canals Engagement Session
February 16, 2018

Erica and Daniel met through mutual friends at a party. Erica, a nutritionist, and Daniel, who was in medical school, they sustained a long distance relationship for years before domestically uniting after they tied the knot! But first…their engagement photos! Since the pair was planning New Jersey nuptials because it is Erica’s home state, they wanted to honor the DC area, where Daniel is from. Through a few conversations with their photographer, Mikkel Paige Photography, their love of Georgetown was mentioned. It was decided that they would feature the historic and iconically beautiful C&O Canal. You know we’re suckers for a good Georgetown Canals engagement session. Therefore, we just had to share these beauties!
The morning of their session called for light rain and their photographer said, “Let’s go for it! Hopefully it won’t rain too hard and it’ll be great for photographs – a cute umbrella in some pictures and even less visitors around to contend with!” We couldn’t agree with her more. Look at how adorable these Georgetown engagement photos turned out! Also, thank you to Mikkel Paige Photography for sharing this engagement session with us today!
