Sleek Black and White DC Wedding
November 25, 2019

Amy and Mario were married this summer at the Carnegie Institution for Science, a perfect backdrop for this sleek black and white DC wedding. Amy & Mario met while taking a Chinese proficiency exam at the University of Maryland, and after graduating have been working and living in Asia as teachers (Taiwan while engaged and recently moved to another city in China). Mario and his family are from Taiwan, while Amy is from the DC/Maryland area. Many of the guests traveled abroad for this special day. Washington, DC was such a great city for this couple to get married and welcome their international friends and family.

On the big day, Amy wore an off-the-shoulder Carolina Herrera gown, and Mario a black tuxedo. Their wedding party paired perfectly in black floor length gowns of their choice for the ladies and classic black tuxedos for the men. Their ceremony took place in the beautiful rotunda at Carnegie, set against the large floor to ceiling doors. Décor was kept to simple greenery planters in the four niches surrounding the ceremony space. Reception centerpieces were lush white florals with touches of greenery, romantic tapered candles and black votive candles, adding just the right amount of modern touch to this elegant wedding reception.  Their two tier textured buttercream cake was displayed in front of the double doors overlooking the city during cocktail hour. And to end the night, guests were given delicious local artisan chocolates as favors! Thanks to one of our favorite DC wedding planners, Margo of Bright Occasions, for sharing this classic wedding inspiration with us today.

Edgy Black and White Art Gallery Wedding
September 5, 2018

Today’s Long View Gallery wedding is one for the books. You know it is going to be a great wedding when there is a puppy in attendance! Not only did the groom gift his bride a golden retriever puppy (OMG!) but we are also swooning over their moody wedding aesthetic and overall vibe. Kyla and Jim’s DC wedding was the perfect mix of minimalistic design with natural accents. With a dark color palette, this edgy black and white art gallery wedding really stood out to us for it’s unique elements.

The bride wore a clean and classic dress accented with an edgy pair of black shoes. A show-stopping clutch and leather jacket were the perfect additions to her look. Talk about a cool bride! The alleys surrounding Long View Gallery also provided a unique backdrop for the couple’s portraits. They kept up with the non-traditional feeling of the day. Sidra Forman’s simple but oh so elegant flowers and branch installation over the ceremony played in perfect contrast the modern atmosphere of Long View Gallery.

The evening was topped off with Occasions Caterer’s delicious cheese and charcuterie display and Buttercream Bakeshop’s collection of cakes; both of which were almost too pretty to eat! Thank you to Bash for sharing this unique Long View Gallery DC wedding with us today!

Black and White Wedding Inspiration
April 12, 2018

Happy Thursday, everyone! We’re getting closer and closer to the weekend. To celebrate, we have got some wedding design inspiration for you! Are you planning a black and white wedding? If so, we can’t blame you because black and white is completely classic. It’s one of those color combos that will never, we repeat NEVER, go out of style. Don’t get us wrong; we love a good wedding trend or a new hot color! But black and white is simply timeless. Maybe that’s why we were drawn to today’s styled shoot by Blue Print 2 Events.

The tablescape in this design is especially striking. The crystal candelabras make the biggest splash and the contrast with the black candles is spectacular. We also love how the black goblets pop against the white sequin table linen. Love Life Images captured the beauty of the table and all of its elements along with the unique bridal gown from The Boutique by B.Belle Events. The dress was beautifully embroidered from top to bottom, a nod to classic traditional elements. The modern side of the design had to be the detachable train surrounding the hip line of the dress. How fun would it be to have two looks for your wedding? The classic train would be perfect for walking down the aisle while the fitted design underneath is made for partying the night away! Thank you to Blue Print 2 Events for sharing this black and white design inspiration via Matchology.

Black and White Marble Wedding Inspiration
October 31, 2017

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Although Halloween falling on a Tuesday is not exactly ideal for dressing up and going to parties, we are happy because it falls on a day when we feature wedding inspiration! Instead of going the traditional “halloween wedding” route, we are going for a dark and moody theme with black and white marble. Not only is it fun and dark, but marble is so classy! It just adds a little extra umph to your decor. We’ve scoured the internet (and asked some of our fave bloggers!) for some killer inspo. We hope you like what we came up with! Click on each photo to be taken to the original post and make sure to scroll all the way down for the photo credits.

Classic Black and White Virginia Wedding (Part 2): Marianne + Ryan
April 11, 2012

Welcome back! If you missed Marianne and Ryan’s stunning Catholic ceremony, check it out right here, because we’ve now moved to Stonewall Golf Club for their reception! I love their simple black and white palette, and like the couple themselves, my favorite details were custom handmade items they incorporated. A wedding tree and an adorable cake topper gave this classic wedding from Janice C. Photography just the touch of fun and personalization every wedding needs!

From Marianne: Our wedding tree is one of the most meaningful items we own! We wanted something different then a guest book that would sit on a shelf. I love that we went with fall shades to mimic the changing leaves of the season. It hangs in our home and we love the constant reminder of all the friends and family who were there to celebrate with us.

Before we started any planning, we sat down and decided what were must haves. Food, drinks and music were at the top of the list from the very beginning. We wanted our guests to be comfortable and have an amazing experience.

Our cake topper was one of my favorite things! Lynn was fantastic. She asked for pictures of the both of us, including photos of my wedding dress and hair inspiration. I also loved that we were able to include our sweet little furbabies in our big day!

Marianne’s advice to other DC-area couples:

Breathe! Don’t let the little things get to you. It will all go by so fast from the planning to the big day. Enjoy it! Sit down and decide, as a couple, what you really want your wedding to be. Choose what is most important to you both and make those things the priority, especially if you have a smaller budget.

Classic Black and White Virginia Wedding (Part 1): Marianne + Ryan
April 11, 2012

Marianne and Ryan met when they were six, thanks in large part to their moms’ mutual adoration of Bon Jovi. Despite living more than 1,000 miles apart, the grew to be great friends and after one some, and one kiss, they never looked back! They planned a Virginia wedding at an exquisite church that needed no more than their simple palette of black, white and gold and Janice C. Photography there to document it all. Perhaps the most personal touch of the day was the special anniversary they shared it with…

classic-black-white-virginia-wedding-janice-c-photography12

From Marianne: The one thing we wanted our wedding to be was classic something that would stand the test of time. We ended up changing our color palette a few times, trying to find something that would fit the bill. We eventually decided on a simple black and gold palette with touches of white.

We wanted our wedding to incorporate our family members as much as possible. Ryan’s custom-made wedding band was made of gold and diamonds from his grandparents’ and parents’ rings, and my bouquet included small butterflies to remember our loved ones who had passed. The stem of my bouquet was wrapped in a handkerchief that a very close family friend used on her own wedding day.

Ryan and I got married on my maternal grandparent’s 50th wedding anniversary. As a special gift to them for all they did for me growing up, we invited them to renew their vows during our ceremony, right before we said our own. Watching them hold hands and seeing all the love they have for one another was one of my favorite memories of day. We can’t thank them enough for letting us share such a special day with them.

Maryland Holiday Soiree Inspiration
November 21, 2019

Imagine hundreds of twinkle lights wrapped inside wisteria branches arching over a patio that overlooks 100 acres of exquisite grounds in Harford County. Today’s cozy and chic winter welcome dinner is what holiday dreams are made of! This holiday party was housed inside a Georgian Revival mansion that dates back to 1898 and was filled with magic that only this time of year can bring.

Steelcut Flower Co. decked the halls with non-traditional textured magnolia leaves, dark red roses, and hand painted gold greenery. Talk about major holiday vibes! The Concert Truck serenaded nearly 40 guests as they sipped hot chocolate and festive holiday cocktails while cozying up on velvet settees. Seriously, we wish this decor was present in our living rooms right now. Are we alone? Doubt it! Small bites were wrapped like presents and served in other whimsical ways by servers wearing Tartan plaid ties to match the runners in the stunning and festive, holiday-inspired tablescape.

Directly following cocktail hour, guests were invited to be seated at charming Barnes Farm Tables with chic place settings from Pretty Little Wedding Co. where guests enjoyed an incredible 3 course dinner. Each seat was set with a hand lettered ornament and delicate contemporary black and white menus. Our favorites at Urban Row Photography captured it all beautifully and truly brought the spirit of the holidays to life.

The following Washington DC wedding professionals contributed to this Maryland Holiday Party:
