Winter Wedding at Chesapeake Bay Beach Club
December 12, 2019

Kelsey and Chris met in Corpus Christi, TX. He had just completed flight school and was about to be awarded his wings. One of Kelsey’s best friends was completing the same program and she went down for the ceremony. It was there that the pair met and the rest is history! Their Maryland wedding represented the couple’s love of the outdoors. Kelsey wanted to evoke the intimacy of the outdoors in winter when only the evergreen trees remain and the sky is full of grey. They knew they wanted a deep emerald/forest green to bring the outside inside. The white, mauve, dark purple and grey bring in a really wonderful contrast! We love that the whole atmosphere conveys the winter wedding vibe without relying on a Christmas theme or on a pure white winter wonderland.

Kelsey and Chris personalized their wedding day in unique ways as well! One of our favorites of these was that they used an old family recipe for the wedding favors. Kelsey’s mom and sister create a homemade kahlua, aged with vanilla bean for a month. They then put it in individual little brown bottles, decorated with sticker, and tied on some fresh greens that we cut from the evergreen trees behind the couple’s house. What a great idea! Edible favors are always a big hit. The bride and groom also wrote their own ceremony and vows. Choosing how the ceremony was structured, what songs were performed and readings were read, allowed them to create a ceremony that truly spoke to what love and commitment meant to them. For the big day, Chris wore his Marine Corps Dress Blue Bravos. His career as an VM22 Osprey pilot is something to be proud of and showcasing his accomplishments through our attire really allowed him to shine alongside his beautiful bride in a stunning Justin Alexander gown. Thank you to Michelle Whitley Photography for sharing this Chesapeake Bay Beach Club wedding with us today!

Tell us your proposal story. The proposal happened in San Diego, CA. I had just flown in and Chris said he wanted us to go on a hike. After being on a plane for 5 some hours, that sounded great. He took us up to Torrey Pines State Reserve and we hiked down to where the ocean meets the cliffs. I wandered out on some rocks, he followed me out and then go down on one knee. I was absolutely happy, shocked, and very concerned that water would splash up and knock the ring out of his hand.

What were the most memorable parts of the day? For me, the most anticipated moment for me was the exchange of vows. We had previously agreed to write our own vows, and our only guiding rule from there was that we both would keep it to about 5 sentences, so 5 promises. I have known for a long time that Christopher loves me, he shows it in the smallest, most wonderful ways, but I was very curious for what he would promise in front of so many family and friends. Spoiler alert, he did amazing and he definitely made me tear up.

Do you have any planning advice for future couples? The best planning advice I have is to find the right vendors and put your trust in them. We would not have had as beautiful of an event and would not have enjoyed ourselves as much if I had tried to micromanage the planning process or worried about every little detail on the day of

Vibrant Coral Chesapeake Bay Beach Wedding: Cara + James
January 19, 2016

It was love at first site for Cara and James when they toured Chesapeake Bay Beach Club, they knew it was the perfect spot to say their vows in front of their friends and family given that they had met in Annapolis 4 years prior and the bride hailed from New England. The chic waterfront Maryland venue encompassed so many nods to their history, and brought their love story full circle. In the days leading up to the wedding the weather was unseasonably cold and rainy, and the bride shared how the sun came out the moment she pulled on her dress. We are so glad she was able to have such a special moment that foreshadowed the celebration of the amazing journey they were about to begin. The ladies wore lace navy J. Crew bridesmaid dresses, and the bride punched up the nautical look with bright coral peonies, mint succulents, and cream textured bouquets which really brought together a perfect summer color story! We love that they repurposed their ceremony aisle arrangements onto the reception kings table for a budget conscious, yet impactful floral element! Thank you to Renee Michele Photography for sharing their beautiful Chesapeake beach wedding day love story with us!

From the bride: The gold bangles that I wore belonged to my Nana, including a gorgeous Irish Claddagh bangle. My family and I were very close to my Nana who passed away a few years prior to the wedding. Wearing her jewelry was such an honor, and helped me to feel her presence on our special day. My mother and mother-in-law carried personalized handkerchiefs that I gifted to them on the Mother’s Day prior to the wedding day.

My husband is a firefighter and plays the bagpipes in his company’s Emerald Society. It was really important to us to have traditional bagpipes playing at the ceremony. One of his band mates played out in front of the venue as guests were arriving to the ceremony, and then played in front of us as we walked up the aisle right after becoming husband and wife!

Advice from the couple: If you are at all anxious about wedding planning, or if decision making is not your forte, splurge on a wedding planner! It is so worth it to help make the process more enjoyable. Our planner Lee Kendall, with Elizabeth Bailey weddings did a fabulous job guiding us through the entire wedding planning process, which helped us take some of the stress out of the process to enjoy our time as an engaged couple. She also helped immensely on the day of the wedding, ensuring we were able to be present in the moment rather than worrying about logistics of the day. Also, decide prior to looking at venues and vendors what the priorities for your wedding are. It is so for priorities to become skewed during the planning process, and it is important to establish and stick with what is most important to you as a couple, after all it is your day!!

My favorite memory from my wedding day is when our photographer stole us away from our reception to snap our sunset photos. I was originally stressed about leaving the venue just as dinner was being served, and worrying about getting around to talking to each guest. Then once we were outside the setting was so beautiful and it was really the only “alone” time my husband and I had during the entire reception. There was a small boat of fisherman a bit off shore who saw us taking pictures and yelled “congratulations!” We climbed up on the rocks on the jetty and took gorgeous photos, but in that moment we were also discussing how thankful we were for each other, and how lucky we were to have such amazing family and friends!

Beach Inspired Wedding Reception by the Chesapeake Bay: Tricia + Reginald
April 16, 2012

Welcome back for part two of Tricia and Reginald’s Maryland wedding by the bay from jan michele photography (You can check out their ceremony here!). Their beach inspiration meets purple palette continued into their reception, with starfish turned place cards and beautiful purple flowers, from the centerpieces to the cake. The Chesapeake Bay Beach Club was the ideal venue for a theme as such, and the festivities were quickly underway!

From Tricia: When we found our reception site, we knew instantly this is where we wanted to celebrate our marriage with our family and friends. The reception site and its location is what helped inspire our wedding theme, and all the special details that helped make our wedding so special just fell into place.

Tricia’s advice to other DC-area couples:

Start planning early and take your time to choose the things that are most important to you. If you want to splurge in certain areas, that’s perfectly fine, just find other areas of your wedding to cut back on so that you don’t go over budget. Ask for help when you need it, those closest to you will be more than willing to lend a hand. Most importantly, wedding planning is supposed to be fun, don’t let it take over the excitement of your wedding day!

Beach Inspired Wedding Ceremony by the Chesapeake Bay: Tricia + Reginald
April 16, 2012

Tricia and Reginald found inspiration right from their venue on the Chesapeake Bay for their wedding. A subtle nod to the beach and an unexpected addition of purple married perfectly together as this duo said “I do” with jan michele photography there to capture it all. I’m loving the little touches in this ceremony, like the bride’s “something blue” shoes and her special nod to her mother. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, it’s the little things that count. Check back later for part two of this wedding by the bay!

purple-beach-theme-wedding-chesapeake-bay-jan-michele-photography20

From Tricia: Reg and I both wanted a wedding that represented our simple styles, yet we still wanted it to be fun, unique and special for us.

purple-beach-theme-wedding-chesapeake-bay-jan-michele-photography

purple-beach-theme-wedding-chesapeake-bay-jan-michele-photography19

My mother passed away when I was 15, and I wanted to make her a part of our wedding day. I pinned a locket size photo of her to my bouquet and carried it around with me most of the wedding day. It made me feel as if she was there sharing our wedding day with us.

purple-beach-theme-wedding-chesapeake-bay-jan-michele-photography-bouquet purple-beach-theme-wedding-chesapeake-bay-jan-michele-photography17

I’ve always enjoyed crafty type of projects, so I made the decision that I would make all the stationery for our wedding. I bought my supplies online and made our invitations, dinner rehearsal invites, programs, and escort cards. Although it probably added to some of the stress leading up to the wedding it was well worth it! I was able to save a little bit of money and I was really happy with how they turned out.

We also wanted to incorporate some of Reg’s Filipino wedding traditions into our ceremony. Part of the Filipino wedding tradition is to choose three pairs of secondary sponsors. The candle sponsors light the smaller candles in which the bride and groom light their unity candle using the flame of the smaller candles. The veil sponsors pin a veil on the bride and groom, signifies the groom pledging his strength and protection to his bride and the bride promises to take care of her groom. The cord sponsors place the cord over the veil in a figure eight, the cord symbolizes unity and infinity.

Beachy Bayside Fall Wedding in Maryland
May 6, 2019

Jenny and Adam met through Jenny’s sister and brother-in-law, Abby and Steve. Adam played flag football with Steve and met Abby at a team party. Abby had wanted to set Jenny and Adam up for awhile and eventually they all met for dinner at Cava Mezze in Clarendon. It was more casual hangout versus double date, but the pair hit it off pretty immediately. A few months down the road, they started dating, and as they say, the rest is history! Jenny and Adam still go to Cava Mezze every year for their anniversary. How cute is that?!

Jenny and Adam’s beachy bayside fall wedding took place at the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club in Stevensville, Maryland. Their color palette was classic navy and burgundy to complement the coastal setting and the fall season. They managed to create a perfect balance between the two without being cliche or overly “fall.” The florals for their day were organic, romantic, and absolutely perfect for the setting as well. Thank you to Wolfcrest Photography for sharing this Maryland wedding with us today!

Tell us your proposal story. Jenny had a work trip scheduled for Paris and after a few months of planning, I “reluctantly” tagged along. We arrived in Paris the morning of the 12th and had to wander around as our check-in time was still a few hours away. We made our way around the Louvre and Royal Palace area and I surreptitiously scouted some potential spots to pop the big question. After some much needed rest that afternoon, we headed out to dinner and then went for a walk around the same area. We walked over the Seine before coming back to the Royal Palace square and settling on a bench. I often write poems for birthdays and anniversaries and thought it would be a fitting way to propose. I was able to get through the proposal and Jenny said yes!

Elegant Fall Bayside Wedding
October 15, 2018

November 11 is a special day for Chelsea and Matthew. In 2011, it was the day he asked her to be his girlfriend; it felt “true to our hearts” to get married on the same date, Chelsea says. Throughout their Maryland wedding they also embraced fall colors, especially burgundy and gold, and the beautiful Chesapeake Bay. The couple especially loved their flowers, homemade framed love quotes on each table and their first dance to Kenny Loggins’ “Danny’s Song.” Their venues, St. Mary’s Parish in Annapolis and Chesapeake Bay Beach Club on Kent Island, are both special places to the couple and their loved ones. We loved their lace burgundy bridesmaid dresses and nearly naked wedding cake with fall blooms. Everything came together to create the perfect fall bayside wedding! We wish Chelsea and Matthew nothing but the best in their marriage!

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now? “Take your time and enjoy it! Don’t get so wrapped up in all the small details, none of that ever matters in the end because everything manages to fall into place. At the end of the day, there’s only one thing that matters; that’s getting married to the love of your life! Soak up every second of the day because it goes by fast. If you pause to appreciate all the love, family and friends who are present and supporting you, it makes you appreciate everything so much more.”

Whimsical Chesepeake Bay Beach Club Wedding
January 3, 2018

Besides having the best dance party of the year, Leigh and Carey knew that they wanted their Chesapeake Bay Beach Club wedding to be a combination of simple, casually elegant, personal, modern, and fun experience for their guests. The bride had visions of beachy pastels coming to life on the Chesapeake Bay alongside a few subtle bay-themed elements. We love the personalized cocktail napkins with their first dance lyrics, the head table with laser-cut wooden place card names, and the incredible seating wall created by Edge Floral Designers. This is one you won’t want to miss! It featured names of all the places that they have traveled to together and was so personal. In addition, serious floral dreams became reality with their light pink, peach, butter, and dusty miller arrangements!

Leigh and Carey’s love story began when they started dating after a chance meeting at their neighborhood watering hole, Bourbon in Glover Park. Not exchanging numbers the night of their meeting didn’t stop these two, as a mutual friend ensured they’d connect later. Fast forward 4 years and that same friend acted as their Jewish Ketubah signing witness on their wedding day. We love when things come full circle like that to create a beautiful moment. Thank you to Bonnie Sen Photography for sharing this whimsical Chesapeake Bay Beach Club wedding with us today!

Cheery Bayside Maryland Wedding: Erin + Jeremy
June 8, 2016

Erin and Jeremy’s cheery Maryland waterfront wedding at Silver Swan Bayside is the perfect mixture of summertime nautical and pottery barn chic. The couple used a natural color story of tan, yellow, and white to transform the already picturesque setting into a nautical summer soiree. Their outdoor wedding ceremony took place on the boardwalk in front of the bay on a cloudless perfectly sunny afternoon. Erin and Jeremy radiated such joy in their photos, that you can’t help but smile as you walk through the happiness of their wedding day! Our favorite moment from their day was their special reception sendoff with sparklers before they were whisked away by boat on the Maryland bay! How fun would that exit be?! Thank you to Kim Newton Weddings for sharing today’s nautical Maryland Bayside wedding with us!

From the Bride: ” I absolutely love beach and nautical everything! I would describe my wedding as Coastal Living meets Pottery Barn. Oh and did I mention I’m obsessed with Pottery Barn?! I knew I wanted to get married on the water somewhere and so we found the perfect venue right on the Chesapeake Bay, right outside of city center Annapolis called Silver Swan Bayside. I wanted a classy, simple, modern nautical/beach themed wedding which is where the style from Coastal Living and Pottery Barn come into play. My colors were definitely appropriate for the whole Nautical theme – navy, light tan, white, and hints of yellow and green here and there. “

And beautiful weather, which we had no control over but was certainly blessed with the perfect sunset during the ceremony. And to marry my best friend of course! We splurged on the venue but it wasn’t to over the top and we splurged on our departure from the reception“

“Instead of having the bridesmaids and groomsmen come down the center aisle, we had them come down the opposite sides of the boardwalk and lined up facing the center point of the boardwalk where the alter was located. Being the bride, I was the only one that walked down the main aisle with my dad. The groomsmen all wore Sperry boat shoes, including the ring bear, it was so cute. There was also a live, 3-string orchestra playing for our ceremony music, it was beautiful! We also had lanterns and seashells lining the aisle. More nautical/beach items at the card and reception tables.”

“As for our flowers, I noticed at previous weddings that brides love to use roses and hydrangeas (I mean don’t get me wrong, I think they are gorgeous flowers) but I knew I wanted to do something a little more unique. Therefore, the reception tables had long stems of Bells of Ireland in tall vases with other flowers and I think that really set my flowers apart from others. There was also a candy bar that contained all kinds of sweets matching our color theme. We also had personalized koozies for people’s drinks, and a fire pit for guests to just hang out and relax around. Bottom line, I wanted everyone to have that laid back vibe and to just enjoy a beautiful summer night on the water. “

“I would have to say that my number one memory is looking at my husband at the end of the aisle for the first time and just seeing through each others faces how blessed we were to have one another. And the stunning weather we had that day. There was no wind on the water, a beautiful sunset during the ceremony, and a million stars that filled the sky. And just dancing the night away with friends and family! “

“My husband and I left on a nice boat, we had a captain so we didn’t have to worry about getting the boat back safely to our destination. It was such a beautiful night as well, not a cloud in the sky and so many stars out that night. As I look back though, I wish we would of splurged on the DJ a little more, we had a friend who had a DJ background but didn’t have all the special equipment that was needed. The music was still great to dance to and the reception was so much fun, but my advice to future brides is to definitely spend a good amount on a DJ that will accommodate to your style! “

November 4, 2015

If you’re hosting a beach wedding in Maryland or maybe Virginia, if you love a little rustic decor, and if you want something oh-so special for your big wedding day, then look no further than today’s wedding inspiration brought to us by the ladies of Engaging Affairs! Set at the beautiful Maryland wedding location on the beach, Chesapeake Bay Beach Club, this team of top-notch DMV wedding vendors came together with two models, two tabletop looks and even a teepee and swing on the sand! They left no wedding-day detail behind, even putting together a coordinated wedding guest welcome gift from Marigold & Grey. Dripping in lush greenery, bold jewel tone colored flowers and all the romance a couple getting ready to marry could ask for, this sophisticated sandy setup is amazing! I love the unique twist on a flower crown made of greens and the oversized lush bridal bouquets these two beauties carry. This boho chic wedding inspiration is full of creativity and rich colors to help make your Washington DC area wedding a stunner. Turquoise and Coral DIY Wedding Reception on the Chesapeake Bay: Laura + Nathaniel
November 4, 2013

Hello and welcome back to Laura and Nat’s wedding in Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay. (Don’t forget to check out their outdoor, waterfront wedding ceremony first!) I’m just a little bit in love (and super impressed!) with all of their DIY touches that they worked on for their wedding – signs, escort cards, frames, painted jars, votives, drink cards, favors – I’m tired just listing it all!  Leslie Koehn was there to capture all of the lovely moment of their beautiful, springtime wedding on the bay! And, scroll all the way to the bottom because we have a video treat too!

Laura’s advice for other couples in the DC area planning a wedding:

Not everything is going to go 100% right through your planning and day-of, but chances are you will be the only one who realizes if any mishaps do happen. At the end of the day, you will be married to your best friend, the love of your life and surrounded by all of your closest friends and family, so if some things do not go perfectly, it won’t ruin the experience, although it might make for a better story later! Roll with the punches and enjoy every moment. Try and take a few minutes with one another during your dinner reception to eat and also catch your breath. While doing so, take a look around and see all the friends/family who came from all over to celebrate and share in our special day. It really is the most overwhelmingly blessed feeling ever.

As a bonus, we have a Laura and Nat’s wedding trailer video from Bella Bride Wedding Films. Here is what Laura had to say about their video: “If you can find room in your budget, get a videographer. The day flies by so quickly. It has been amazing to not only look back at our photos but to also watch our videos, re-living all of the happy and heartfelt emotions and expressions from our special day.”
