Amy and Mario were married this summer at the Carnegie Institution for Science, a perfect backdrop for this sleek black and white DC wedding. Amy & Mario met while taking a Chinese proficiency exam at the University of Maryland, and after graduating have been working and living in Asia as teachers (Taiwan while engaged and recently moved to another city in China). Mario and his family are from Taiwan, while Amy is from the DC/Maryland area. Many of the guests traveled abroad for this special day. Washington, DC was such a great city for this couple to get married and welcome their international friends and family.
On the big day, Amy wore an off-the-shoulder Carolina Herrera gown, and Mario a black tuxedo. Their wedding party paired perfectly in black floor length gowns of their choice for the ladies and classic black tuxedos for the men. Their ceremony took place in the beautiful rotunda at Carnegie, set against the large floor to ceiling doors. Décor was kept to simple greenery planters in the four niches surrounding the ceremony space. Reception centerpieces were lush white florals with touches of greenery, romantic tapered candles and black votive candles, adding just the right amount of modern touch to this elegant wedding reception. Their two tier textured buttercream cake was displayed in front of the double doors overlooking the city during cocktail hour. And to end the night, guests were given delicious local artisan chocolates as favors! Thanks to one of our favorite DC wedding planners, Margo of Bright Occasions, for sharing this classic wedding inspiration with us today.
