Personal Burgundy and Blush Virginia Wedding
August 20, 2019 Alex Hamilton

From the second that Kathy and Nick saw each other on their Virginia wedding day, the celebration had begun. Not even the cold temperatures could dampen their smiles, and boy did the wind really try. Despite that, the day unfolded flawlessly. Nick slid excitedly down the aisle to get married and together and Kathy and Nick both ran into their reception during entrances to kick off the party. Kathy’s family traveled from all over the continental US to celebrate with them and Nick’s friends and families came to Virginia for the first time. From a heartfelt ceremony that joined them as husband and wife officiated by their hilarious brother-in-law, to beautiful and heartfelt speeches, to a killer dance party, you couldn’t ask for a more beautiful way to start your lives together.

Although Kathy and Nick didn’t want a wedding “theme,” they did want their guests to feel like the wedding was very “them.” To accomplish this there were little touches of their own humor and personality sprinkled throughout the wedding and reception at Osprey’s at Belmont Bay. From writing 95% of the officiant’s script, pre-selecting a lot of the music that the DJ played, the dinosaur cake toppers with a veil made by Kathy, and the hidden Mickeys in the cake’s icing, the day represented the two of them perfectly. Even the wedding website had an invitation for everyone to wear tennis shoes with their semi-formal attire, as it is common knowledge that Nick is a sneakerhead and would most definitely be wearing sneakers! Everything that they chose for the wedding was a mutual decision (aside from Kathy’s dress!) which really nailed their vision of starting off their marriage with a celebration that mirrored both of them. Thank you to Wolfcrest Photography for sharing this burgundy and blush wedding with us today.

The proposal story: It was a wonderful and private moment in the home that they share. After dating for 7 years (4 years long distance and 3 years living together), a cross-country move, and buying a house, the talk about marriage had been put into overdrive. After Nick’s birthday dinner and cake with the Kathy’s family, they returned home. Upon entering the house, Kathy said “I’m sorry I didn’t get you a present. I’ll go do the dishes.” He did not respond and she heard him walk down the stairs into the basement, so she just went along with washing the dishes. A few moments later, after hearing him come back upstairs to the main floor, Nick started saying (from around the corner from the kitchen) “Oh! I know what I want for my birthday,” to which Kathy responded “finally. What?” and, as he rounded the corner, he said “I want you to marry me. Will you marry me?” as he held out a beautiful solitaire round engagement ring.

Do you have any advice for couples planning their wedding? Take your time in planning and be confident in all of your vendors. Remember that confidence in your vendors on your wedding day – they are professionals and know what they’re doing! If there is a hiccup, they can help fix it. Guests won’t notice anything going wrong unless you talk about it! Be sure to take a minute and enjoy your day with everyone who came to celebrate with you. Everything goes by so fast and everyone who is there came to celebrate your marriage!
