Sarah and Peter had the perfect garden wedding reception, right in the heart of DC! Their venue the Decatur House provided beautiful outdoor elements, while still allowing their guests the ease of traveling around DC from the hotel and the church. It’s one of our favorite DC wedding venues!
After the ceremony at St John’s Episcopal Church in Georgetown, guests made their way to the Decatur House where they were greeted with the sounds of jazz from the saxophone player. Guests enjoyed delectable drinks and hors d’oeuvres during cocktail hour. Right before they entered the reception, the floor to ceiling blinds rose to reveal the outdoor reception space — a surprise to all!
Guests oohhed and ahhed as they entered, where the beautiful floral arrangements of white and yellow flowers greeted guests. Rattan chargers and canton blue base plates added a pop of color to the place settings and complemented the garden scheme perfectly. After a delicious dinner and rousing toasts, the party truly began. Once For the Win took the stage, the dance floor remained packed all night long! A late-night beignet display was the perfect way to “sweetly” end the day. Thank you to SRS Events for sharing this garden inspired tented DC wedding with us.
How did you and Peter meet and how did he propose? We met through a friend in DC! The first time we met was at party, we went on our first date the following week, and a year and a half later we were engaged. Peter proposed at Tudor Place in Georgetown. It’s an old mansion with lovely gardens that you can walk through, it’s very peaceful and intimate. We live close by and have gone on walks through Tudor before, so the whole thing was very non-suspect.
After the proposal, Peter had planned a surprise dinner with all of our closest friends. It was so great. A few of my friends were there from out-of-town, I was completely blown away. The surprises continued with a brunch the following morning with our parents. He put so much thought into the whole weekend, it was so sweet.
What was your favorite wedding moment? I really liked the ceremony and the party (after dinner once the band started playing). Regarding the ceremony, it was so nice to finally be with Peter after a full morning of nerves. There’s so much hype leading up to the wedding and knowing that we were finally together and the marriage was finally happening was awesome. For the party, we had a great band and it felt so good to finally “let loose.”
Any advice for engaged couples in the planning process? I think a good money saving tip is to find vendors who are relatively new to the industry, but also very good (with good reviews). Those vendors are probably a little cheaper than others, but provide the same quality of service. You really have to take the time to do your research up front.
