Let’s just kick this post off by saying that Jamie and Jen did not have the easiest month leading up to their classically elegant Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium wedding. It seemed like every unexpected thing that could happen, did. Luckily for them, their wedding planners at A. Dominick Events took everything in stride to ensure they had the perfect day despite the aforementioned hiccups.
A few weeks prior to their Washington DC wedding date, the unfortunate reality set in that snow was in the forecast and the largest anti-gun march would be the same day. The week prior to the wedding, two funny things happened. First, one of Jen’s bridesmaids unfortunately had the wrong wedding date planned. She was leaving for Tokyo for her spring break that Sunday. And guess what? She wasn’t supposed to return until a week and a half later. Jen says she learned just how strong their friendship was when the bridesmaid said she’d fly back early from Tokyo to be there for the big day!
Second, the Monday before the wedding, the couple learned all streets surrounding the Mellon Auditorium would be closed until 6:00 pm on their wedding day. This meant their 5:00 pm wedding ceremony couldn’t happen until 7:00 pm when the streets were open. With the help of their amazing planners, every vendor was notified of the time change within 24 hours and intense planning began to make the change.
The road closures meant no vendor trucks could get near the Mellon Auditorium on Saturday; everything needed to be at the DC wedding venue by Friday. This included everything from tables and chair to flowers… and a refrigerated truck (guarded by an overnight security guard) with all of their food. Within two days, Jen and Jamie collected email addresses for all 235+ guests, and notified them via Paperless Post about the last minute schedule change. Thank goodness for technology; everyone noted the change and they were good to go! After the 5” of snow hit and completely shut down DC that Wednesday, they thought nothing else could possibly go wrong. And they were correct. Everything after Wednesday was perfect.
