Ashley and Will met at orientation on the first day of work in federal IT sales. At first they joked about how he went to Virginia Tech and she went to UVA undergrad, which are rival schools, and a friendship began. Months later, they were going on lunch dates. Eventually, he officially asked her to be his girlfriend. The pair still works at that same company they met at four years later. If you think that was cute, their proposal story and their DC engagement session are even cuter!
On a drizzling Saturday morning in late May, Ashley woke up late for her planned hike with Will. Because of the dreary weather, she wanted to crawl back into bed. Will wasn’t having it. He insisted that they go to the Maryland side of Great Falls Park to spend the day outside with their black lab. She finally caved and the three of them headed up to Maryland for the day. Will with a GoPro in hand. At the time, Ashley thought nothing of since it was his Christmas gift from her. She was happy he was using the GoPro to take photos of scenery. Along the way, he seemed concerned about trail closures and kept asking different park employees if any of the trails were closed due to rain that day. Little did Ashley know, he was doing so because he was worried that the trail he had used as a dry run for the proposal was closed. Luckily, it was not!
Once they got to his predetermined spot on the trail, Will asked Ashley to check their dog’s tag since they were moving apartments. He said he wanted to make sure the address was correct. Instead of their new address, the dog tag said “Will you marry me?” Will got down on one knee and Ashley, of course, said yes! The entire proposal was captured on the GoPro, which was strapped to Will’s chest. Could there be a more perfect proposal story?! For their DC engagement session, Ashley and Will chose to take a tour of some of the best monuments that DC has to offer! From the Washington Monument to the Jefferson Memorial, the pair walked the Mall with their photographer Kir Tuben. They even managed a quick wardrobe change! Thank you to Kir Tuben for sharing these quintessential DC monuments engagement photos with us today.
