Sherita and Tyrone met over 8 years ago on a dating website. During their exciting courtship, the bride was diagnosed with cancer. She says she told Tyrone and, like a real man, he jumped right in and didn’t walk away from her; he stood by her side every step of the way. From that moment she knew that he was the one for her. For their DC wedding, the couple chose the Mayflower Hotel for their ceremony and reception. We love all of the rich purples and sparkly sliver that they chose for their decor. It really makes the ballroom pop.
We love when couples decide to incorporate meaningful moments of faith or tradition into their ceremony. For Sherita and Tyrone, this was the jumping of the broom. The jumping of the broom is an Old African-American tradition that has carried on since 1897 in West Africa/Ghana and has several meanings across African cultures. However, to all, the brooms represents a spiritual value of warding off evil spirits and past wrongs and of sweeping away the old and bringing in the new. For the humor in it all, it says the person that jumps the highest will be the ruler in the household. We wonder which of them jumped the highest! Thank you to Perfect Planning Events for sharing this Mayflower Hotel wedding with us today.
