Sally and Brendan opted for an indoor garden wedding of sorts – at the beautiful Atrium at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens in Vienna, Virginia, where they not only celebrated their wedding ceremony, but hosted their garden chic Virginia wedding reception too. Their wedding was certainly a very personal experience for the couple, who incorporated their love story and their favorite things into the big day. They even wrote their own wedding ceremony vows, and Brendan had his bride laughing through many of the cute references to pop culture and their favorite TV show and movies. It was important to Sally that their wedding ceremony be personal, in part since her dad was no longer with them, so she walked down the aisle with a gold anklet in remembrance of him as he “walked” her down the aisle and her brother served as their wedding ceremony officiant. Such a sweet way to honor her dad and keep him close! This wedding certainly had us in tears – both of laughter and love! A big thanks to the talented Washington DC area wedding photographer, Hannah Colclazier Hudson, for sharing images from Sally and Bredan’s special wedding day with us!
From the bride: Because we chose Meadowlark Botanical Gardens in Virginia as our wedding venue, we wanted to let the landscape and beauty around us be the main attraction for our wedding. I love the elegance of simplicity, so we kept our wedding theme simple, crisp, and clean with shades of green and white as accents. Our wedding reception centerpieces displayed white calla lilies, orchids, and tulips. To add a little romance, we placed the flowers in water-filled vases and topped with floating candles. Our wedding day goal was for the love, music, and our wedding guests to shine and for everyone to come away with memories of how they felt and how much fun was had at our wedding.
My father passed away suddenly five years ago. It was only a month into our dating and his unwavering support sealed the deal that he was “the one!” To honor my father, I wore a gold anklet with his initials engraved in a heart, so that he could walk me down the aisle in spirit. My brother officiated our wedding, even though he had never done it before and wasn’t even licensed when we asked. He did a beautiful job and it made our wedding ceremony extra special and personal. We wrote our own wedding ceremony vows. I had two ceremony aisle escorts – my stepfather and my honorary uncle from England who has known my family since my mother was a teenager.
My favorite memory is our vow exchange. We didn’t share them beforehand so we didn’t know what to expect from each other. They were funny and silly and honest and had everyone laughing and crying – our ultimate goal! I’ll never forget how happy and calm I felt reading mine and hearing his.
Congratulations to Sally and Brendan! Thank you for sharing your garden chic indoor garden wedding ceremony with us! Stay tuned for their elegant wedding reception inspired by many of their favorite things!
