Welcome back to part two of today’s featured wedding in DC where not even the government shutdown could stop these two from having their wedding! Fernando and Neil traveled from Texas for a destination wedding and celebrated their union their way at Donovan House Hotel right in the heart of downtown Washington DC, where they also wined and dined their wedding guests during their art deco inspired wedding reception. If you missed their oh-so personal wedding ceremony, be sure to take a look at all the details here! Looking for a venue that was central to their friends and family from all over the country, their Washington DC wedding was actually a destination wedding, and one where the grooms tossed out tradition and opted for the things they love most instead. In lieu of dancing, the couple hosted a custom 7-course dinner meal – complete with wine pairings. Yum! Not only do we love the foodie element in their big day, but the fact that the guys did exactly what they wanted for their wedding, not necessarily just what people expected, is amazing. From the custom printed art deco paper to their picture-perfect purple bowties, these two carried out their theme (lit by candlelight) flawlessly! Even their wedding cake was decked to the nines in true art deco fashion – almost to pretty to cut!A special thank you to their wedding photographer Kelly Prizel and their wedding planner Candy+Co. Events for sharing Fernando and Neil’s big art-deco wedding photos with us.
From the grooms: All our families are big time foodies, so that was really the focus of our wedding reception. We don’t really dance – we eat and drink! Chef Jennifer Nguyen absolutely blew us away with the wedding menu she put together for us! We were honored, touched, and overwhelmed by everyone who came to share our wedding event with us. We honestly never expected to be able to ever get married (legally), so it was a really big deal for us!
Advice from the grooms for other Washington DC area wedding couples:
Plan your wedding early! The wedding venues fill up quickly, and will cost more than you expect. Be flexible and don’t get too invested in your original wedding vision.
Budgeting for the wedding planner is the best money you will spend!
Congratulations to Fernando and Neil! Thank you for sharing your swanky art deco inspired candlelight wedding reception with us!
