Good morning Washington DC wedding lovers! I hope you are ready for a dapper and modern, yet personal, wedding right in the heart of the city. Mike and Torey wed in-the-round (in a circular setup of the chairs for the ceremony) inside the stunning Carnegie Institution for Science where they exchanged their vows in a very elegant arrangement. With the help of DC wedding planners, Candy+Co, the two dapper grooms (one whom you may recognize as a bit of DC royalty on local news!), dressed to the nines to celebrate and exchange their ceremony vows. Their perfectly tailored grey suits paired with purple accents set the tone for a very fabulous night ahead! Even their wedding invitation suite is lined with fashionable paper in the color palette. Pretty paper aside, you know that I’m a sucker for wedding traditions and so my favorite part of their wedding is that they participated in a ceremony tradition of jumping the broom. What a great moment and photo op too!? With their families surrounding them from all sides, Mike and Torey’s wedding ceremony in Washington DC was intimate and certainly full of love! Thanks to Emily Clack Photography for shariny Mike and Torey’s lovely wedding photos with us.
From the grooms: The Carnegie Institution for Science is a spectacular venue for any event. Holding our wedding ceremony in the round, in that rotunda, with our marriage officiated by our dear friend George, surrounded by the 115 smiling faces of our family and friends felt very intimate, poignant and powerful. Our wedding weekend began with a family tennis gathering. Some used the hashtag #2015love.
We got engaged just a few days before July 4th, 2014. Living in Washington DC, we knew we wanted to share the D.C. Independence Day experience with our family and friends. Our wedding rehearsal dinner on July 4th, 2015 was a patriotic BBQ followed by the fireworks on the National Mall, while our wedding day on July 5th was a more formal affair at the beautiful Carnegie Institution for Science. Just a few days before our wedding, the U.S. Supreme Court happened to issue its ruling ensuring marriage equality nationwide. The timing was purely a coincidence, but it was the icing on our wedding cake.
Congratulations to Mike and Torey! Thank you for sharing your Washington DC wedding in the round with us! Stay tuned, up next we’ll be sharing with you their swanky purple and grey city wedding reception.
