It’s Opening Day, ya’ll! Translation: Baseball, beers and plenty o’ #natitude and #birdland pride to go ˜round the DMV. So, we are celebrating with this super sweet wedding elopement in Washington DC. Kendra and Paul planned an intimate celebration at The Kennedy Center with their loved ones on hand to witness their I Do’s and Dani Leigh Photography behind the lens to capture it all. Before hosting a surprise happy hour reception for friends, they headed to Nationals Park for some fun portraits!
From Kendra: I’ve never been a planner, or someone who dreams about her wedding. So when it came time to plan the event, I hated it! Eventually I gave up and Paul agreed that we should just elope and spend all of our wedding money on the honeymoon. I knew I wanted a simple, wedding with a non-traditional dress and pictures that captured our love of DC.
My mom made my wedding dress. I really liked the idea of wedding dresses that aren’t totally white. My mom was able to make a white dress with a blush-colored lace on top, so in some lighting the dress looked white, in others it looked pink! I also told my mom my dress had to be short and springy and fun (with pockets). She did a really great job of incorporating everything into a perfect dress!
My favorites picture was taken in front of Nats Park, with us behind the heart-shaped umbrella. I think it’s so cute and perfect and really captures what we loved about our wedding and our favorite thing about DC.
Kendra’s wedding planning advice for other DC-area couples:
DC weddings are expensive and stressful! Don’t let all the wedding planning take over your life, or make you forget the things that are important for you. The wedding will be one of the best days of your life, so make sure you take a step back and soak in all in!
