You know what I love most about having a wedding on the East Coast? Everything you and your guests could need or want is all around you! Just a short drive from downtown Washington DC is the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Sure, we all know about the Outer Banks for summer vacations and their beautiful beaches, but have you considered it for your wedding, or better yet, for your honeymoon?
Two of our friends who live here in DC were married on the Outer Banks in Duck. They like to vacation on the Outer Banks, so it was a natural fit for their wedding celebration. They wanted a destination wedding on a beach, but wanted all of their friends and family to be able to make it. As wedding guests, it was awesome for us because we were able to celebrate our friends and be there for them, and then we were able to turn it into a whole beach vacation with our friends.
Our friends got married on a weekend in late August when it was so hot and sticky in DC! It was great to get out of the city and beat the heat a little bit. We rented a big house on the beach with some other friends who were also attending the wedding. For the days leading up to the wedding we went to the beach and laid by the pool – just got out of the city for a while and really enjoyed ourselves!
There was so much to do on the Outer Banks! In addition to the beach, we also did some biking and went for runs on the beach. One day we went to see the lighthouse at Cape Hatteras and also visited the Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kill Devil Hills. My husband and his buddies also managed to squeeze in a few rounds of golf!
Our vacation was capped off by their wedding festivities. Their wedding was at the Sanderling Inn with the ceremony outside overlooking the beach at followed by dinner and dancing…lots of dancing! Our friends who got married also stayed a few extra days on the Outer Banks for their honeymoon before coming back to reality.
The Outer Banks is an ideal spot for your wedding and honeymoon. There are so many different choices and things to do on the Outer Banks from the beaches to boating to loads of off-beach adventures. You and yours could be married with the sand between your toes and then you can extend your wedding right on into your honeymoon! Plus the Outer Banks is so easy to get to for you and your guests. It offers a destination wedding without the drama of an airport or a passport!
As a wedding guest myself, I definitely encourage you to consider the Outer Banks for your wedding and your honeymoon. There is so much for you and your wedding guests to do on the Outer Banks that I know your guests will want to turn it into a mini-vacation! Your guests will thank you for having your wedding on the Outer Banks!
