We are nothing if not suckers for sophisticated soirees in the District. So once we saw Karen and Selvin’s wedding in Washington DC, we knew we hit the wedding jackpot. An excess of lush blooms (hello pops of yellow!) paired with a wedding party dressed to the nines is everything you need on this Monday morning. Studio Saldana was on hand to capture this utterly romantic fete complete with Filipino and Guatemalan wedding traditions. Come back later this afternoon to check out their blue and yellow reception in Crystal City!
From Karen: We wanted to plan a wedding that was classic and elegant without breaking the bank. We did the planning on our own so it was very time consuming. After conducting research online and in wedding magazines, as well as taking notes from weddings we attended, I knew which separate elements I wanted but I wasn’t exactly sure how everything would work once it was all put together but it came together very nicely.
A personal and cultural element that we included was during the wedding ceremony. We come from different cultural backgrounds (Selvin’s family is from Guatemala and mine is from the Philippines) but we both grew up in the Catholic faith. We included a Filipino tradition that incorporates ceremonial coins, cord, and a veil. It is my understanding that this tradition has Spanish influences so Selvin’s family was familiar with it.
Thank you so much Karen and Selvin for sharing your wedding ceremony with us! Be sure to come back later this morning to see their reception. The following Washington DC area wedding professionals contributed to their wedding:
