One thing is for sure: a wedding bursting with big pink balloons is a wedding after my own heart! Britney and Patrick’s wedding in Washington DC was inspired by The Secret Garden. A garden wedding in the city? You know there’s a whole lot of pretty about to happen! This urban garden affair with a serious pop of pink was all beautifully captured by SRW Joyce Photography. Join us this afternoon as we swoon over their intimate wedding reception!
From Britney: We wanted to have an outdoor, intimate wedding in a very pretty setting and the Tudor Place fit the bill! I wanted to have that “Secret Garden” type of feel for our wedding with a whimsical feel. The Tudor Place already provided a beautiful space, so our decorations were minimal. We just had some flower petals and light pink and white balloons.
The most memorable moment for me was the first look that Pat and I had. We have been together for almost 10 years, and I was not expecting to get butterflies in my stomach when I was walking down the stone staircase to see him!
In lieu of a unity candle, we did a “Beer Box” since both Pat and I are beer lovers, and we put a bottle of Ommegang Three Philosopher’s beer in it (From NY, where we first lived together) and we each wrote notes to each other and put them in a box that my Dad built. We will open the box, have the beer and read the letters on our 5th wedding anniversary.
My main priority was having a garden wedding and secondly, I wanted to have a string quartet. I did some research in the DC area, and found the Youth Orchestra of Prince William which is a student orchestra in Northern Virginia. On their website they indicated that their students can do weddings and they were budget friendly, so we decided to go with them, and they did an amazing job! I would highly recommend them.
