I know the DC-area’s spring fever is at an all-time high right now (especially with that crazy long winter we just had!) but I have to interrupt this beautiful warm weather with Alisha and Bryant’s Washington DC wedding. Autumn may seem like its light-years away, but it’s the perfect time for fall wedding inspiration, don’t you think? With photos by Douglas Pettway Photography, they took color inspiration from the season for their sweet DIY celebration! You might even remember that we featured their wedding engagement session in Virginia. We’ll let Alisha tell you more of their story¦
From Alisha: For our wedding, we were going for a simple autumn feel. We wanted the colors of the leaves to be the backdrop for our photographs. Our colors were also based on the beautiful spectrum of colors of the leaves, metallic elements (golds and bronzes), and deep purples.
My favorite memory of the day was before the ceremony, in the hotel. My mother presented me with a wrapped box and card. It was a gift from Bryant. While reading the card, I said to myself, “he’s NOT going to make me cry.” The necklace was beautiful; so thoughtful; so Bryant. I ended up swapping out my original necklace for this new one. This was a wonderful surprise for him as I walked down the aisle.
The main priorities for our wedding were music, pictures, venue, and the honeymoon. Mainly we just wanted our guest to have FUN! We were able to do quite a few things in-house (save the dates, invitations, centerpiece items, floral arrangements) due to Alisha’s crafting/DIY talents.
Alisha’s wedding planning advice for other DC-area couples:
Our advice would be to know WHAT you want. It definitely makes the wedding planning process easier. The execution of that vision may take some work, but know what you want is a good starting point. Also, it’s ok to use websites to get DIY ideas, just make sure you try to execute some of them well in advance. It will save time and money.
