Kim and James had a perfectly lovely spring wedding in Virginia. I appreciate that they kept it simple and classic, really focusing on the ceremony and the venue. This allowed them to have a wedding that really reflected who they were as a couple. They allowed their incredible venue to shine with Stephen Gosling Photography there to capture it all. To round it all out, they added little pops of purple – for the Ravens, of course – from the flowers to the bridesmaids!
From Kim: Our overall theme was simple and classic and our wedding felt very true to who we are as a couple. We really wanted the venue to be our centerpiece. The George Washington Masonic Memorial is so beautiful by itself, and I didn’t want to overshadow the stunning venue, so we kept the flowers and decorations to a minimum and very simple. My favorite color is purple (Go Ravens!) so I had splashes in purple with the bridesmaid dresses, the groomsmen’s ties, the centerpieces and lighting. Our wedding was everything we wanted. I think it really captured how we are as a couple: very easy-going, fun, and filled with lots of love!
From Kim: James’ Dad is a Freemason and the pocket watch that James’ wore in his vest is from his father, who received that when he became a 33rd degree Freemason. So it was neat that we also got married at the Masonic Temple.
From Kim: We wanted to incorporate our families where we could. James’ aunt was our officiant. We wanted someone who knew us as a couple and also as individuals. She did such an amazing job and could not have asked for anyone better to marry us. James’ sister played the piano for the ceremony. I walked down the aisle to Yiruma’s, “River Flows in You” and we exited the ceremony with the theme from Lord of the Rings, a movie we both love. Our favorite memory were the vows. We both wrote our vows separately and did not hear them until we both recited them for the first time during the ceremony. It was really special and I loved how similar our vows were to each other. I think our vows captured our love and commitment to one another and how much we respect each other.
