We are back with part two of Savannah and Patrick’s wedding in Charlottesville. Did you see their wedding ceremony at the University of Virginia’s chapel? After the ceremony, they hopped in the sweetest of antique cars and headed to their reception. Their main priority was for their guests to have a good time and feel comfortable – looks like they did just that! And, I love how they embraced Charlottesville throughout the day, even with their beer selection! The Happy Couple Photography was there to capture all the pretty moments and beautiful details.
From Savannah: The main priorities for us were the photographers and the band. Wedding photographs are some of the only tangible memories from a wedding day, and we didn’t want to miss a thing. As for the band, we wanted to make sure the dance floor was packed all night. We cut corners with the “paper” products for our wedding: save the dates, invitations, etc. Luckily, my brother is a very talented artist, and was able to design everything for us at a very low cost. We also had all of our invitations printed at a local printer to save cost.
From Savannah: We love local Virginia beer and wine, and we wanted to be sure our out of town guests got a little taste of Charlottesville. To accomplish this, we served wine from nearby Veritas Winery with dinner and during cocktail hour. After dinner, we had a craft beer bar set up on the outside patio – featuring beers from some of our favorite Virginian breweries. Looking back, we would not have changed a thing!
From Savannah: My mom makes the best almond poundcake. Growing up, it was always our “special occasion” cake. Over the course of 2 months, she baked and froze over 200 mini poundcakes as the favor for our wedding. My mom, dad, brother and I packaged them up in corsage bags the weekend before the wedding.
Savannah’s advice for other couples in the DC area:
Our top tip: if your budget allows, it is so worth it to hire a trustworthy wedding planner or coordinator. The last thing you want is to be stressed or worried about logistics on the day of your wedding. Letting someone else “take the reigns” is such a relief, and allows you to fully enjoy every special moment of the day. Secondly, once you make a decision on a certain facet of your wedding (flowers, invitations, favors, etc.) stop looking at other ideas in that same category. Pinterest played a large role in helping us visualize our wedding, but if you keep looking at ideas (when you’ve already made a decision), you’ll second guess yourself and drive yourself crazy.
