Happy Monday! I hope you have your passport, because we are taking a little trip to France for Carolyn and Thomas’ wedding…in Maryland with Jennfer McMenamin Photography! After finding The Castle at Maryvale – a mansion built in the late 1800s outside of Baltimore, Maryland – they knew they could pull off a French chateau inspired wedding, right here in the DC area. Using creams, lavenders and a touch of black, they had a beautifully French-inspired day. Don’t forget to come back this afternoon for their reception outside and inside of the castle!
From Carolyn: We initially fell in love with the idea of holding our ceremony at a chateau in France’s Loire Valley. And we quickly fell out of love with that notion when we considered the logistics involved! So, we set out to achieve the same sense of history, culture, and lush garden feel, but in a local setting. We used a palette of cream, black and shades of plum, with lavender roses and cream peonies.
My wedding dress featured die-cut organza butterflies that fluttered with every step I took–I had my dress tailor remove a few of the butterflies for a crown-like arrangement in my hair.
To reflect a classic French aesthetic, I tried to incorporate plum, black and cream elements throughout, and used a Betsy White logo featuring antique crossed keys. We integrated the design into our save-the-date, ceremony programs, and garden pillows (using cheap Ikea pillows and iron-on transfers). [You’ll see the pillows in part two!] Earlier in the year we had traveled to Paris for our engagement photos, which we incorporated into the program and signing frame.
