Casual Virginia Farm Wedding Ceremony: Elizabeth + Jay
June 19, 2013 admin

Today’s Virginia wedding from Lelia Marie Photography has so many fun and unique details, I don’t even know where to start! Elizabeth and Jay knew they wanted a casual and relaxed wedding weekend, so it was jeans for the groom and cowboy boots all around! With a dog-friendly venue, all four legged friends were invited to join in on the festivities too. How fun is that!? The two were lucky to have an army of creative family and friends behind them, and it sure shows in all the DIYs that perfectly complemented their laid back wedding feel.

Briar Patch Bed and Breakfast Virginia

From Elizabeth: While we contemplated many different wedding styles, the one that we felt most reflected our personalities was a casual outdoor wedding. We wanted our guests to feel relaxed and at home. Our venue, the Briar Patch Bed and Breakfast in Middleburg, Virginia, helped set this tone. From the big white farmhouse to the horses in the pasture, the whole event felt like a getaway at an old Virginia farm, which was just what I wanted.

My incredible cousin, Kara Malcolm, served as my coordinator and is also the genius behind many of the small touches. Besides creating my bouquet and the bridesmaids bouquets, she also planted the snapdragon centerpieces, created the lavender sachets, decorated with fresh-cut ivy, and much more. I was so glad to have her creativity at work! Her sweetheart of a husband also crafted a beautiful sign for us, which was particularly meaningful as he used salvaged wood from my grandfather’s barn.

All of the signage from the day was created by my mother and my brother’s girlfriend (both who have impeccable handwriting). Stefanie, my brother’s girlfriend, was also kind enough to collect the items for our “doggy bar”! Yes, dogs were invited to our wedding as our venue is dog-friendly. They were a huge cocktail hour hit, and everyone had a great time playing with them and the many treats, frisbees, and tennis balls from the “doggy bar.

We were very lucky with the weather. It was a gorgeous, clear spring day that felt like it was out of a dream. Everything was blooming and the day felt like it was created to be special.
