We’re back with your second hefty dose of spring for the day, this time in the form of Cristina and Brock’s colorful reception from Love Life Images! If you caught their ceremony, you’ll see the mix of sweet florals in bright containers and DIY paper goods continue to give this wedding a perfectly casual vibe. And when a night ends with brigadeiros (Brazilian chocolate truffles) you know it was a great event! Yum!
From Cristina: We definitely wanted to personalize the wedding, so I weaved-in several personal touches by taking on DIY projects with my mom, including designing and assembling the invitations, programs, menu cards, and favors to reflect the easygoing yet elegant, intimate, and vintage feel we were going for.
My happiest wedding day memory is when Brock and I decided on a whim to greet all of our guests individually during the reception in lieu of holding toasts. We were so honored to have all of our favorite people in one place sharing our happiest day that we just had to give everyone a hug!
I am originally from Brazil, and since my mom is the best baker I know, she made delectable and beautiful brigadeiros (chocolate truffle candies) as part of our dessert table – my favorite party treat as a kid. Also, my godparents, who were able to attend the festivities from Brazil, brought coconut candies for the dessert table – another favorite childhood snack – and my mom and godmother wrapped each one in their traditional vibrant, colorful crepe paper wrappers the night before the wedding.
Cristina’s advice for other DC-area couples:
My best wedding planning advice comes from my good friend Steph, who wisely said, “If anything causes you anxiety or doesn’t feel quite right, maybe just don’t do it?!” This piece of advice resonated with Brock and I until our wedding day and helped to create a pretty smooth planning process. Remember, weddings are, above all else, full of love and joy – if there’s any stress you can eliminate from the get-go, I say do it! Also, don’t worry so much about the little details – the day will go so quickly that they really won’t matter much. You’ll be too busy smiling until your face hurts and feeling more love than you ever thought possible to sweat the small stuff. Oh, and speaking of little details – if you’re even considering a planner, even just day-of help, DO IT! I didn’t think we would need the extra help at first, but when you start planning the logistics of the day, having someone you trust on-hand to ensure everything flows is priceless. I don’t know what we would have done without Sara from Bash DC to coordinate the final details. Her calming presence helped us to fully enjoy our wedding day, for sure.
