Nadine and Matt had a stunningly beautiful Washington DC wedding, captured by Douglas Pettway Photography, but it’s their proposal story that first caught our eyes! Matt had always dreamed of a BMW and after years and years, went straight to the source (Germany!) to pick up his car, with Nadine in tow. They toured the factory and were “meeting” their new car, but it wasn’t until it was time to pop the trunk that Matt pulled out the ring, turned around and popped the question! Turns out Matt wasn’t the only one getting something shiny and new that day! Back in DC, they wed in a traditional church ceremony and celebrated with friends and family, with a quick trip to Krispy Kreme in between!
From Nadine: Our wedding was fun and elegant. We wanted it to be fun but accessible, we didn’t want our guests to worry about anything and we wanted them to feel special
My favorite memory was walking down the aisle. I was so moved by how many of our friends and family from all the phases of our lives were there to share in this moment with us.
I only had one bridesmaid, but many good girlfriends. It was important to me to recognize and honor them at the reception. So I tied orange ribbons on their place cards, no one knew why the ribbons were there until I gave a brief speech thanking them for being there that night and all the times before, then invited them all to the dance floor. They were all surprised and quite touched.
Nadine’s advice to other DC-area couples:
Remember that it is your wedding. Enjoy the day, it really does go by quickly.
