Michelle and Mark really love everything about the fall, so there was no better theme for their Virginia wedding than their favorite season. Luckily, the Washington DC-area looks pretty fantastic decked out in autumn colors. (Not that I have to tell you all that!) Their wedding from Tabitha of Roberts & Co. Events and Kristi Odom Photography is perfectly red, orange, and covered in leaves (all the way through to their reception, too!). They didn’t let their theme miss a beat, but they also made sure to bring in their cultures, having a bi-lingual ceremony and even a special surprise for the bride!
From Michelle: Our wedding could be described as a Virginia rustic fall wedding. We definitely had a specific vision for our wedding that started even before we got engaged. Mark and I love everything about the fall, we met in the fall, its the beginning to a new hockey season for the Capitals, going outdoors in the gorgeous weather at Virginia wineries, and seeing the vibrant changing colors of the leaves. So it was easy to pick fall as the perfect season for us to get married in and share with our friends and family some of the things we love the most. We really took the fall theme to heart and we integrated it as much as we possibly could. The venue, stationary, wardrobe, flowers, our wedding colors and even the food had fall touches to it.
I love the red and oranges in the trees during the fall, which are opulent and vibrant, so we picked specific items throughout the wedding that would complement the scenery.
My something old was my great grandmother’s rosary that was given to my Father for his first communion and then given to me. I always knew I wanted to bring in my family heirloom, and it fit in perfectly by wrapping it around the stem of my flowers.
Mark and I tried to make everything personal, whether it was tying it in to our theme or to our heritages we made an effort to make it special. I am Puerto Rican with a Colombian family that was invited to our wedding. The most significant touch was that we decided to have our wedding ceremony be in English and Spanish. We had family members from each family read the same readings in both languages, one after another. Mark also surprised me by learning his vows in Spanish and reading them to me so that my family could understand him, needless to say he brought me to tears. I recited mine in English for his family to understand the commitment I was making to him.
