We’re back with Jessica and Josh’s Maryland wedding reception from Readyluck Photographers, fit for the likes of Marie Antoinette! Did you miss their romantic wedding portraits that kicked things off? Their evening garden party was full of unique florals, modern typography, DIY decor and delicious bites. How’s that for the makings of a perfect post-elopement celebration? I can’t get enough of the detail of this wedding, and I can guarantee you’ll be right there with me, too!
From Jessica: I’m in love with Sofia Coppola’s 2006 film, Marie Antoinette, so we incorporated influences from the movie–serving Sofia bubbly from the Francis Ford Coppola vineyard and playing songs from the movie soundtrack at the party. Marie Antoinette also favored pink garden roses, which were the flowers we chose for the tables, along with an array of wildflowers in mason jars, to keep the casual garden party feel. I chose muted summery colors for the theme: coral, aqua and pale grey.
My Marie Antoinette obsession doesn’t stop there. For my bachelorette party, we rented out The Charles Theater in Baltimore, MD and had a private screening of the film! We brought plenty of champagne. In addition, I love the look of handmade weddings, so I nixed the bridal shower and instead invited my mom, my mother-in-law and all my girlfriends over for a champagne and crafts party to help make the decor. They slaved away making the fabric pompoms, fringe garland and paper rosettes. I’m eternally grateful.
Jessica’s advice to other DC-area couples:
I’m a huge proponent of making lots of lists and timelines! Things change daily, so you will often need a new set of priorities–it helps keep you less stressed and more flexible. Don’t be afraid to make your own traditions and pare things down. All the gorgeous wedding blogs and Pinterest boards and magazines can make gathering inspiration overwhelming. At some point, you have to cut yourself off. I made only a few of the 10-plus craft ideas I had wanted to do, and I’m so glad. Otherwise, I think my fingers may have been bleeding the day of the party!
