If just the two of you and a simple courthouse wedding ceremony sounds like the perfect day to you, then you’ll love Emilie and Zack’s DC wedding. They headed to the courthouse and tied the knot, then spent the day touring DC on a Segway. Along with photographer Amber Wilkie, they hit a few stunning spots for photos around the National Mall before ending their evening with dinner and a concert. They plan to celebrate with family and friends soon, but this day was all about the two of them – just how they wanted it. And I have to say, the final photo today (start scrolling!) is one of the most stunning shots I have ever seen.
From Emilie: I can honestly say our wedding was all about us. Due to certain circumstances we decided to have a courthouse wedding. At first we weren’t sure what to do to celebrate the day. The only thing we were sure about was that we didn’t want to go to the courthouse, get married, and come home and be depressed! We already had concert tickets to see one of our favorite bands before we knew we were going to get married on that day and we decided to still go so we needed to fill the time in between. We came up with the idea of doing a private Segway tour – something we’ve been wanting to try and also something we thought would make for a unique experience.
My wedding band was my mother’s and my husband’s was his father’s.
We incorporated the Segway tour into our wedding photos – the photographer came along with us which not only made for some good shots but was also convenient in terms of a means of transportation around the tidal basin (where the cherry trees were blossoming – a memory we wanted for our wedding day) and between several monuments where we wanted to have photos taken. Something else we were sure we wanted to include in our day was a delicious meal at a great restaurant to celebrate and we found one we’d never tried before and to this day think it’s the best meal we’ve had in DC.
One of our favorite memories is riding along the National Mall on a Segway and in wedding attire on a gloomy DC afternoon but feeling like a celebrity with every single passer by looking and pointing at you! The look of surprise on people’s faces was a reminder that we were doing something unique – meanwhile we were most definitely having fun – and being unique is so important to us.
Emilie’s advice to other DC-area couples:
Do what you want to do. It is your wedding day and a day you will remember and cherish a thousand times more than any of your guests.
