Welcome back! Hope you had a great, long weekend! When we asked Emily about her Virginia wedding to Samir, her response included, “My secret weapon and creative mind behind it all: My Mom.” That’s one awesome mom, huh!? Of course, this couples’ dads shouldn’t be overlooked either. Emily’s father, recently diagnosed with Leukemia, made it his goal to walk her down the aisle and Samir’s father Skyped in all the way from Bolivia. With parents like that behind you, your wedding doesn’t need much else! Of course, I won’t complain about the fabulous combination of gray and fuchsia or Stephanie Ascari’s beautiful photos of it all, regardless. Don’t forget to check back for more at their reception, too!
From Emily: Simple but elegant and sweet. I love pink and peonies and classic so I knew that all of those elements had to be incorporated into our wedding. My mom is incredibly talented and creative so we collaborated and shared our ideas and came up with the gray and fuchsia/pink palette. We wanted to keep it simple and not fussy.
The flowers were my favorite detail of the wedding. They brought color and brightness to the whole wedding. Also, I had a few DIY projects like the monogrammed totes and dress hangers for my bridesmaids. It was so simple and fun to do.
Besides marrying my husband, my favorite and most cherished moments were my dad walking me down the aisle and our father daughter dance to Paul Simons’ Father and Daughter. A year and a half before the wedding he was diagnosed with Leukemia. We made a promise to each other that no matter what he would walk me down the aisle. It was so important to both of us, and I am so lucky and grateful we both got to experience both of those moments.
Samir’s father lives in Bolivia and was not able to be here for the wedding. We were able to set up Skype on our iPad and had a family member video chat the entire ceremony. Immediately after the ceremony we were able to share a few words and tears. Even though he could not physically be here he got to experience it with us.
