I’m going to gush a little over Diana and John’s wedding, I just adore it! It took me quite awhile to stop staring longingly at the invitations from Rifle Paper Co. and that handmade ring pillow, but every little detail of Diana and John’s Washington DC wedding from Rebekah J. Murray is perfection. The ceremony is filled with neutral fall tones, utter elegance, and nods to their relationship and heritage. Diana describes her wedding as having a touch of “folk whimsy” and she couldn’t be more spot on. These little touches come out even more in the reception!
From Diana: Our wedding style was old world elegance with a touch of folk whimsy. The Meridian House matched everything that we were looking for in a venue-a mix of indoor and outdoor space and a layout where guests could wander in and out of rooms through the night and not feel confined to one space. We wanted to play off the old world feel of the house and not add to much extra detail. Getting married in November, we wanted to incorporate fall elements, but decided to use more fall neutral colors (creams, greens, and browns, with a touch of orange) instead of traditional yellow, reds and oranges. We wanted things to feel natural. The more folksy elements included Rifle Paper Co. wedding invitations and table menus and the use of felted cream acorns as decor.
I was fortunate to incorporate handed down pieces into my wardrobe such as my hairpiece. My Maid of Honor and sister Michaela, wore art deco inspired Lulu Frost for J. Crew jewelry which blended beautifully with other elements of the wedding.
I was raised in a Polish-American household with close ties to my family’s Polish roots. We incorporated a Polish wedding tradition- ˜sharing of bread, salt, and wine’- into our ceremony.
John and I met while serving in the Peace Corps in Uganda. We wanted to incorporate some ˜Africa’ elements in our wedding as a tribute to where we first met. Our recessional was an acoustic version of ˜Africa’ by Toto and we made sure to play the same African dance hits we danced to while living in Uganda.
