Aubrey and Matt’s Baltimore wedding day started with the unexpected: a fire alarm, leaving the bride’s dress stranded on the fourteenth floor of the hotel! Lucky for her, a friend and a firefighter came to her dress’ rescue and the rest of the day went as planned – personal, intimate and elegant – with the help of Rebecca from Blue Canary Events. While neither bride nor groom was from Baltimore, it was where they met and held so much significance that they’re friends and family traveled to watch them say “I do” right across the street from their meeting place with Jennifer Hughes capturing it all. Their neutral palette blended beautifully with their garden ceremony in the middle of the city and made for a stunning, dramatic reception too. Head back later for that!
Our wedding was, in a word: personal! We tried to make every detail somehow significant and connected to our history, our families or our heritage. We wanted our wedding to be warm, intimate, and elegant. We included guinea fowl feathers in the boutonnieres as a subtle nod to Matt’s love of fly fishing.
An unexpected fire alarm the morning of the wedding held my wedding dress, veil and shoes hostage on the fourteenth floor of the hotel. My dear friend Brian charged up all fourteen flights of stairs to rescue them for me. The image of him circling down the stairwell, tangled in my cathedral length veil was truly priceless.
We decided to get married in Baltimore since that was the city where we met and fell and love. Our ceremony was held in beautiful garden courtyard (a true surprise in downtown Baltimore!) that was literally across the street from where we had our first date. We were honored to have Matt’s uncle marry us. A few favorite memories were the moment the doors opened and we first caught a glimpse of each other on our wedding day and squeezing each others hands (tight!) and whispers of “I love you” during the ceremony.
We stopped by Pickles, the bar where we met, for a quick drink with our wedding party before heading to the reception.
