This week we’re taking some time off to celebrate the holiday with our families and get some rest before coming back strong in 2012. We’re revisiting some of our favorite content from 2011 including some of our favorite real weddings! For this installment, I’ve picked a few favorite weddings that best represent the District of Columbia.
If there’s anything I’ve learned in the last fourteen months, it’s that there is no one single type of “DC wedding.” As we’ve said from the very beginning, weddings in the Washington, DC area come in all styles, sizes, and budgets; it’s one of the things that I love about this area! Melissa and David’s courthouse wedding from Schmitz Wedding Photography wasn’t exactly a traditional wedding, but it represents some of DC’s best icons lunch at Ben’s Chili Bowl, portraits at the Lincoln Memorial, and of course a super stylish couple in love.

We’ve had the pleasure of featuring many interfaith and cultural weddings this year, and Rita + Imi’s interfaith Pakistani-American wedding from Erin Lassahn took my breath away from the very beginning. With an outdoor ceremony and indoor reception at Meridian House (and a fun mehndi the night before the wedding), this wedding was simply stunning from start to finish.

If I had to pick just one wedding from this year as the epitome of a classic DC wedding, it would be Astrid + Maher’s wedding from Eli Turner Studios and Cherry Blossom Events. From the ceremony at Georgetown University’s Dahlgren Chapel to the beautiful reception at the Ronald Reagan International Trade Center in downtown DC, Astrid and Maher paid homage to their adopted city while incorporating Haitian and Palestinian traditions into their wedding.
