Chic Urban Wedding at LongView Gallery in Washington, DC: Sasha + Jay
October 26, 2011 Tabitha

Sasha and Jay’s wedding in Washington DC looks like it was so much fun!  Sasha is an event planner here in DC, so when it came time for her own wedding she knew that she wanted something unique and modern and she found it in her own neighborhood in DC!  Sasha and Jay picked Long View Gallery as their venue, choosing to have a cocktail party-style reception culminating with a late night cigar roller and bourbon bar.  Sasha and Jay worked with Sara from Bella Notte to make sure their wedding went off without a hitch, and The Happy Couple was there to capture all of the beautiful images.

From Sasha: We wanted our wedding to be modern, surprising, and a little sassy.

My husband is from Chicago, and I lived there as well for several years, so we incorporated our favorite Chicago snacks caramel/butter/cheese popcorn, and nuts from Nuts on Clark.  We also featured Fat Tire beer from my home town in Colorado, and South African champagne from where I grew up.

We splurged on LongView Gallery as our venue.  We knew it would be different to anything our friends or family had seen, and it was perfectly our style and in our neighborhood.  We also wanted to avoid a sit down dinner and hoped people would mingle.  It worked out perfectly.  I wish we could do the whole day all over again.  The whole day seemed like it went by in 45 minutes!

We love cocktail parties, so the reception had more of a cocktail party feel with food stations, and since my husband is a lover of cigars and bourbon, it seemed only natural to have a late night cigar roller and small-batch bourbon bar.  Some of the boy guests thought they had died and gone to heaven.

At the end of the reception, after all the guests had left, we hitched a ride back to our hotel on a random pedicab.  It was so fun, but I wish we had had a camera around!

Sasha’s advice to other DC-area couples:

I tell my clients this as well, but choose 2 or 3 things that are important to you and splurge on those, rather than spending a budget amount on every item.  People will notice the good stuff.  They won’t notice what they don’t see, but they will notice if everything looks only half done.

The following Washington, DC wedding professionals contributed to Sasha and Jay’s wedding:

Venue: Long View Gallery
Event Planning: Sara Bauleke, Bella Notte
Photography: The Happy Couple
DJ: Bruce Pike Productions
Cake: Fancy Cakes by Leslie
Floral Design: Brookhill Florist
Stationery: Weswen Design
