This gorgeous fall wedding in Virginia from Stephen Gosling Photography seemed like the perfect way to help commemorate the unofficial end of summer. Nancy and Curtis were married at Raspberry Plain last October. They incorporated beautiful fall colors and rustic touches into their elegant wedding, along with a few quirky and personal details (like an Indiana Jones groom’s cake!). I particularly love the mini pumpkin escort cards so perfect for a fall wedding!
From Nancy: Our wedding was “elegant autumn” with a few quirky elements added in. We love the fall and pumpkins, so we picked autumn colors (gold, red, purple) for the linens, bridesmaids dresses and flowers. Then we had mini pumpkins as the favors and worked into the centerpieces.
My favorite memory from our wedding day was the ceremony. My husband wrote the whole ceremony, including our vows, and so they were very personal and truley spoke just to us. It was a very special moment.
We wanted the wedding to reflect our personalities and hobbies, so we added in a few personal touches: the groom’s cake was the Ark from Indiana Jones (one of our favorite movies and also both of our inspiration for our careers in museums); our wedding cake topper was our Mii characters in our wedding attire; we had a silouette of a corgi on the back of the programs (to remind us of our pet dog).
I loved the mini-pumpkins and the flowers they were some of the first things we picked out and planned the wedding around and they really set the tone for the whole theme.
We wanted to throw a really fun, memorable party for our guests. We splurged on the food (you’ve got to have good food!) and the groom’s cake (it was from a fancy bakery), since those were important elements of a fun, personal time! We also had a signature cocktail a Dark ‘n’ Stormy which is from my husband’s New England heritage. Our guests loved the drinks and dancing, which was perfect!
My advice would be to a) always remember to have fun and b) set a budget and stick to it. You can spend all your time and money on little elements that nobody will see or remember. Pick one or two things to splurge on and let the rest be simple. Always, always remember that this is a celebration and should be fun and joyous. Don’t get too stressed or panicked by every little detail.
