Today’s wedding from Eli Turner Studios is the epitome of a DC wedding and I love it! Astrid and Maher come from different cultural backgrounds; they met met at a pre-orientation for Georgetown University and ultimately settled right here in Washington, DC, so it was only fitting that they return there for their wedding ceremony nine years later. They incorporated Haitian and Palestinian traditions into their wedding, working with the team at Cherry Blossom Events to bring their wedding vision to life with a beautiful reception at the Ronald Reagan International Trade Center in downtown DC.
From Astrid: Maher and I, being of Palestinian and Haitian origin, wanted to create a wedding that would make both our families feel at home, while highlighting the diversity of our relationship. With this in mind, we incorporated both French and Arabic into our invitations, scripture readings, and song selections. We also made sure that the music at our reception included contemporary Arabic dancing, Palestinian dabkeh folk dancing, and Haitian kompa.
Having met during a pre-orientation program before our freshman year at Georgetown University, we could think of no better place to finally tie the knot than Dahlgren Chapel on Georgetown’s main campus. In the nine years since , we have come to love Washington, D.C. and therefore wanted to capture our city in our wedding pictures.
The following Washington, DC area wedding vendors contributed to Astrid and Maher’s wedding:
Ceremony Venue: Dahlgren Chapel, Georgetown University
Reception Venue: Ronald Reagan International Trade Center
