Yum, unique and local! Nole and I had the pleasure of visiting DC-based gelato company, Dolci Gelati. We brought along photographer Brian Tropiano, and let me tell you it was a most delicious walk through. Desserts are a key part and a perfect ending to any wedding meal. Beyond traditional wedding cakes, more and more couples are looking for fun and unique dessert options. It doesn’t get more fun than a dessert bar with custom created gelato flavors, or more unique than a signature cocktail made with blended gelato!
We talked with Dolci Gelati‘s chef and owner, Gianluigi. We got to see his chilly kitchen where he creates different flavors and develops recipes. And, of course, we taste tested his handiwork. Mint chocolate chip, cookies and cream, peppermint (my favorite), peach, vanilla ginger, chocolate almond, raspberry…I stopped keeping track!
Gianluigi and Shelia mixed us up a few cocktails by folding the gelato in with different drink bases. They made us a grapefuit campari gin fiz! You could easily use the gelato to create a one-of-a-kind signature cocktail for your wedding. For example, if you wanted to make a Mojito, Dolci Gelati could custom create a lime mint gelato just for you. Mix it with rum and presto: signature cocktail! How about a Kir Royal with cassis sorbet, or a bellini with peach sorbet?!
Yum, right?! Check back in a bit because we have more from our trip to Dolci Gelati. You won’t be able to wait for your wedding, you’ll have to run out to Whole Foods and pick up a pint ASAP.

Yum!! Can’t wait to see more, this is such an awesome idea for weddings 🙂
Hi Jenna,
I am Anastasia, Chef Gianluigi of Dolci Gelati’s wife and I just wanted to let you know that we did a whole sorbet bar at our wedding and it was amazing! We had fersh lime mint sorbet mixed with rum (mojito) tart green apple mixed with vodka (green apple martini) and an array of fresh fruit sorbet that was bright, colorful and mixed with champagne. It not only looked good and tasted good but it kept everyone on the dance floor all night!
