As iconic as the monuments are in Washington, DC, it is rare to see a wedding ceremony take place right in the heart of the Mall at the base of the Jefferson Memorial. That’s why I’m so excited to share Megan and Paul’s wedding today because they said “I do” their way and it turned out spectacularly! Megan and Paul wanted a casual wedding in Washington DC where they could celebrate among an intimate group of family and friends. And that’s exactly what they did on their big day at the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, the site of their wedding ceremony. Their low-key wedding day was one full of smiles and bright colors to reflect the celebration – right down to the eye popping bridal bouquet that Megan carried. As for her wedding dress, oh her wedding dress, she opted for a short, lace bridal gown, in a cream color that looked spectacular on her! Even their adorable flower girl matched the palette, and the groom, well Paul looked ever so handsome in his dark suit and chic shoes. With the National Mall, the Tidal Basil and the grand memorial in the background, the two lovebirds wed on a beautiful summer day before heading to a DC restaurant, the District Chophouse, to celebrate their wedding with their closest friends and family. A special thanks to the team at Red October Photography for sharing Megan and Paul’s DC big day with us!
From the bride: Our wedding was a small group of our closest family and friends. We wanted a simple, casual, stress-free event that focused on our love. We currently live in the Washington DC area, but are originally from Texas (Megan) and Michigan (Paul). We wanted our wedding ceremony to be in a location that symbolized our life together in Washington, DC. Our priorities were the wedding location, food and drink and transportation. We skipped the traditional wedding invites, response cards, wedding coordinator, programs, dances, and speeches. We also did not have a wedding party, with the exception of our 3-year-old niece. The wedding ceremony was fantastic! I loved being able to greet our wedding guests as they arrived, walking down the aisle to the love of my life, and taking pictures with family and friends. Our thumbprint guest book was our most personalized addition.
Advice from the bride for other Washington DC area couples:
Go as big or small as you want for your wedding, but make sure that it is what you and your partner want. Don’t waste time, energy, or money on things that aren’t important to you for your wedding. Also, enjoy the day!! Things may or may not go as planned, but your love will make the wedding day perfect.
Congratulations to Megan and Paul! Thank you for sharing your cheerful, colorful and casual wedding with us!
