As we head into 2016 we wanted to share some of our favorite moments from weddings around the D.C area in 2015 that we know will continue to provide inspiration for years to come. We will be sharing a roundup of our favorite Cakes, Boutonnieres, and Unique Moments over the next few days, so stay tuned! Happy New Year and we can’t wait to see what 2016 brings for our readers and vendor partners!
We swooned for this hand painted confection from Kendall’s Cakes from this Hay Adams Wedding with Kristen Gardner Photography. The painted pink peonies on white fondant made for the perfect compliment to the rest of their romantic DC reception.
This petite cake by Rosa Tenjo offered just the perfect pops of color for Christina and Gonzolo’s DIY summer wedding with Elizabeth Fogarty Photography. Adding a personalized cake topper is the perfect way to jazz up a smaller sized cake.
Gold tipped fondant petals covered this amazing cake by Fluffy Thoughts Bakery at Lindsay and Chris’s glamorous Meridian House Wedding with Jan Michele Photography and Atrendy Wedding. We know first hand that the inside of a Fluffy Thoughts Bakery cake is just as delicious as the outside is beautiful!
How fun is this polka dot orange and yellow cake from Fat Girl Cakes?! We never shy away from color, and we are loving the bright pink and yellow fondant accents from this Jewel tone inspirational shoot with Shannon Graham Photography.
Katie and Marcus had us at sprinkles! Combining two of our favorite treats with sprinkles AND cake, this dessert from Mallory Staley is adorable! Make sure to check out the rest of their Maryland Private Estate wedding with Michelle Van Tine Photography.
Savvy Treats created a unique color blocked cake with use of teal and coral stripes for this modern wedding reception at VisArts in Rockville with Erica Dietz Photography. Paired with Georgetown Cupcakes, the smaller cutting cake is a great affordable way to keep tradition while mixing in new dessert trends!
Dark wedding cakes can be hard to pull off for color saturation, but this navy and gold wedding cake from Sweet This Black Orchid is sexy, stunning, and downright jaw dropping. From Keight and Kenricks Lincoln restaurant wedding with Love Life Images, we loved everything about this cake!
Fluffy Thoughts Bakery makes another appearance with their purple and green, plaid four tiered cake fromMike and Torey’s Carnegie Institution wedding with Emily Clack Photography. We loved the use of clean lines within the buttercream frosting and perfectly placed plaid detailing.
A huge trend we will continue to see in 2016 is the use of gold painted detailing on cakes and wedding details. None was done more perfectly than Room 11’s cake featured with this Local D.C Arena Stage wedding with Sarah Culver Photography. Accented by one large fresh peony, this cake really set the tone for their modern romantic wedding.
A classic and timeless option will always be fresh flowers or greens to accent the perfect white buttercream cake. We fell hard for Fancy Cakes by Leslie’s greenery encircled confection from Kathleen and Joel’s Strong Mansion real wedding with Mary Kate McKenna Photography and Event Accomplished. It perfectly tied into their rich greenery filled wedding, and will be timeless in photos for years to come!
A big thank you to all of our Real Wedding contributors for 2015. Narrowing down to our top ten cakes was not only hard, but made us very hungry! We look forward to seeing what trends and delicious confections will grace the blog for 2016.
