Welcome back for part two of this gorgeous wedding as we try to relive the warmth and sunshine of Tara and Laura’s beautiful summer day in Southern Maryland! Tara and Laura said “I do” during an outdoor wedding ceremony in Maryland at the gorgeous St Mary’s College of Maryland along the water. In case you missed their sweet ceremony, check it out here! For their tented wedding reception, their love of books and book wedding theme continued to flow – right down to their custom designed wedding cake! Books are a part of their life and so they were everywhere, even in the reception table centerpieces! But, the beautiful chevron table runners and custom game of corn hole just might be my favorite wedding day elements of fun! Their summer wedding had pops of orange and green color throughout, including in the dessert bar. And their unique DIY details and signs made their big wedding day that much more personal. A big thanks to Laura Elizabeth Photography for sharing Laura and Tara’s wedding in Southern Maryland with us!
From the brides: Laura is a librarian and Tara is an avid reader, and we wanted a vintage book-themed wedding. We picked our favorite authors and made each table centerpiece a stack of their books, and gave handmade bookmarks out as our wedding favors. Our wedding cake designer did an above and beyond job at making a cake that looked like a stack of leather-bound books! We met at our alma mater, St Mary’s College of Maryland, so we chose to get married at the place we fell in love even thought that meant we had to plan the wedding long distance from where we currently live in Maine. Laura’s mother was invaluable in being our “boots on the ground” meeting with wedding vendors and scoping out the wedding site!
Food was very important to us for our wedding meal, because Laura is pescatarian and Tara is vegetarian, and many of our friends have dietary restrictions. We were so tired of bad wedding food that we can barely eat anyway! We worked very thoroughly with our wedding caterer to make sure that there were plenty of food options, and made sure to fit in a food tasting during a visit to family in Southern Maryland. We loved our wedding dessert table, and even had gluten-free and vegan cupcakes in addition to our regular wedding cake! This definitely paid off as we got tons of compliments on our wedding food! We ended up skipping on the wedding planner and Laura’s mother filled in for that – we had plenty of spreadsheets and Skype calls!
At the very end of the wedding night, a thunderstorm rolled in and we had our last dance under the tent with rain pouring down! Then we all ran to the lodge were Laura and I were staying where some our our wedding guests joined us and hung out for a while.
Advice from the brides for other Washington DC area couples:
Make sure that you prioritize your DIY wedding projects and space them out! Cutting out and gluing together the wedding ceremony program fans took a lot more time than we initially thought it would.
Plan your wedding budget wisely, and when you think it is enough, tack another $1,000 on to cover the unexpected.
Congratulations to Tara and Laura! Thank you for sharing your tented wedding celebration in Southern Maryland with us!
