When your wedding day has come and gone and it’s time for your honeymoon, what do you do if there’s no time or money left for a blissful getaway? Fear not, newlyweds! You don’t have to be far away from home to feel like you’re on vacation when there are plenty of options for mini-moons in the Washington DC area. From Baltimore to Charlottesville, we have plenty of local vacay options to keep you and yours happy! A while back, we answered a local bride reader who was looking for mini-moon ideas in the DC-area in our email newsletter (Subscribe to our email newsletter here!). Today, we’re rounded up a few *more* ideas of local places for romantic mini-moon getaways!
Getaway on the Bay
As a Maryland girl, I may be a little biased but there’s nothing I love more than the Eastern Shore. Mini-mooners who want to stay close to the Chesapeake Bay should check out the historic Kent Island Manor in Stevensville. Take in the waterfront views on their deck or arrange for the Executive Chef to create a truly unique dining experience by creating a custom menu with your favorites! If you’re heading east toward the Atlantic Ocean, my best recommendation is the Paradise Plaza Inn in Ocean City which sits right on the boardwalk with ocean views.
District of Love
Elegant luxury within walking distance of the monuments, Capitol Hill, and much more, can be found at the Mandarin Oriental. Ranked as one of the top 100 hotels in the world, this city oasis pairs Oriental elegance with American style and also features rooms with city views and a spa with a zen-ambiance that has your name all over it! While you’re there, play tourist and enjoy all that the District has to offer, and the best part, a lot of “tourist-y” destinations are free! Plus, there are a plethora of romantic restaurants like Martin’s Tavern, where you can sit in the booth where President Kennedy proposed to Jackie!
Virginia Is For Lovers
Charlottesville mini-mooners will enjoy the intimate and romantic honeymoon cottage at the Clifton Inn. This designated romantic room boasts coutyard and garden views for a scenic stay in the middle of Virginia wine country. While you’re there, maybe even book a Virginia limousine company for an intimate self-guided tour of local wineries– there are a ton in Charlottesville! Another romantic respite in Virginia is Shenandoah Valley where you can stay in a quaint and dreamy cabins or stay nearby at the luxurious Inn at Little Washington.
Romance on the Harbour
The Inn at Henderson’s Wharf offers the experience and charm and comfort of a classic inn with a romantic waterfront view. For you foodies out there, experience Charm City cuisine at its best by booking a tour with Charm City Food Tours where you can have a taste of neighborhood cuisine in Little Italy, Fell’s Point and Federal Hill. Romance package are also available with the other Harbor Magic Hotels (The Pier 5 Hotel, The Admiral Fell Inn or the Inn at Henderson’s Wharf) as well where you can enjoy discounts and specials at Power Plant Live! and in the nearby historic neighborhood of Fell’s Point.
