Amal and Jon’s wedding from Documentary Associates and Amber Karson Events is representative of so many weddings in the Washington, DC area classic and elegant, but full of personal details and fun international elements celebrating the bride and groom’s cultures and backgrounds. Amal and Jon’s wedding started with a moving and personal ceremony in Washington, DC before moving out to Arlington for a fun reception that included hookah pipes, cigars, and a whole lot of dancing!
From Amal: We wanted our wedding to be special by throwing our family and friends an amazing party while incorporating a classic and elegant theme. We planned every aspect as if we were planning a party for the most important people in our lives. We love it that we still hear everyone talk about how much fun they had at our wedding.
Jon’s uncle is a priest and officiated our wedding. He made sure to incorporate my Orthodox background and Jon’s Catholic upbringing. He also included stories from both our families in his homily. We laughed and cried from his touching ceremony and so did our guests. Our ceremony was personal to everyone and will never be forgotten.
Our floral centerpieces were a bit of a splurge. Large trees were constructed to hold floating candles and were surrounded by a mix of ivory flowers.
The balcony off the ballroom was transformed into a lounge filled with Hookah pipes, a traditional Palestinian activity, a Cigar Bar and, later, pizza served at midnight.
Our main priority was making sure every guest had a blast at out wedding by focusing on every detail. Great food, drinks and music were a must as we knew these things would leave a lasting memory for our guests. Our signature cocktail was the “Perfect PAIRtini.”
Amal’s advice to other DC-area couples:
It is possible to be a stress-free bride. Making sure you have a wedding planner to execute your ideas on the day of is so important. We knew things would be taken care of. Make sure you personally like every vendor you choose and enjoy working with them.
